Going through a slump!

Post by Fish-or-man? » Mon Oct 15, 2007 12:21 am

Has anybody on here ever went through a HUGE fishless streak?

I just completed my SEVENTH river trip with no fish caught. I've never been the best salmon angler (before now I considered myself average), but dang, seven. SEVEN! Arg. I've hooked into four (and lost them all, obviously) but I'm in such a rut you could probably place an unconscious salmon in my arms and I'd drop it in the river. Heck, if I bought a salmon fillet from safeway I'd probably lose it on the way out to my truck!

Anyway, if anybody has any sacred tips for getting over a slump like bathing in roe or eating a bowl of corkies for breakfast, or any stories of your own slumps to make me feel better, I'd appreciate it! :eye:

I just went through a huge one of my own. I suggest the Monty Python rule. "Fish for something.....completely different." I went to a secret lake and fished for some bass, and ended up having a huge day. See my secret report.

Well, I kind of wish I would of held off on my desperate cry of frustration for one more day, because eighth time was the charm. Not the biggest coho ever caught, but it's chrome. As you can see from the picture I'm pretty pleased with the whole thing.

I caught her on the Nisqually, and lost another. And before anybody jumps on me, you can retain wild coho on the Nisqually (there was a time when I would of released this fish being a native and all, but as the first fish caught in eight outings it's BBQ-bound). :chef:

Alright, I'm batting .125 now, hopefully I can break into the .200s over the weekend! Ha ha. Thanks for the kind words of wisdom iPodrodder and Oneshot!

Aha! Today, the wisdom of the noble Fish-or-Man? is greater than that of the amazing Monty Python! How did you acheive such an impossible feat?

Great fish!
I went fishing for Salmon for 2 years and only caught one. This year I was blessed. I don't want it to quit.

Thanks guys! It feels really good to actually catch one for a change. I caught it on a very, very small green corky (no yarn, and when I say small I mean as small as they're made). I also lost one on the same set-up. This might be total craziness, but I have a theory that sometimes salmon get over-whelmed with the big bulky set-ups and pass by them when they see them too often. Where as a small, no bells or whistles offering will entice a finicky fish into biting. Of course I also go seven straight trips without landing a fish. Ha ha.

Well, in a way I was fishing for something completely different! I wasn't really expecting to catch anything, so really I was fishing for nothing and caught something. I really like John Cleese's body of work, so surely his wisdom reigned supreme. :king:

Wow, that's interesting to me because reading your reports I thought you were one of those guys who could cast a clothes-pin into a mud puddle and pull out a salmon. Maybe your two years of tough luck hardened you into an elite salmon angler!

I take the good with the bad. I did catch lake fish until salmon season opened. But no salmon for 2 years except the 9 lb. silver last year. I have been in the midst of a pink run and couldn't even foul hook one.

Only some people I have seen are blessed with a personal scent fish like. They are the ones that can catch them with a clothes pin. Maybe they have a gift. I am not one of them.

The cry of frustration worked. See, one more example of how WL.com helps people catch fish.
