Yep fish them under a float. You wanna keep them a foot or two off the bottom. Jigs are by far one of the most popular tactics for steelies and they are a great way to get started in steelheading...Pinks/White/Blacks/Reds are all good colors...

Are the jigs tied with Gami. hooks? I saw pinks break jig hooks, and we know that steelhead put up a WAY bigger fight then pinks do. I know on the green they tip their jigs with sand shrimp or prawns. I have seen them catch steelhead, pinks, and silvers. On pretty much the same exact set up, jigs and shrimp.

the only thing i dont get about the shrimp is would it not mess up the action of the jig? or is it for scent or somthing, i can see the shrimp making the jig sit wierd and scaring the fish, but if it works it works how do you attach the shrimp to the jig? do you like hook it through the head or do you somehow hook it through the body

You use a float to the jig and there is no real action other then the current and any waves that push the float up, thus rising the jig too. The shrimp you attach is just a tiny piece and it is just threaded on to the hook. Careful what you buy, some jig hooks are so cheap like gpc said they would bend out on pink's mouths, so make sure your gettting a quality jig. If your steelheading you might only get one bite all day and I'd hate to lose it on a crappy hook that bent out of a fishes mouth.

yea ur right, i am pretty sure the jigs are of good quality they are locally made so u never know they could go both ways. so u just take a little peive of shrimp and tip the hook with it so the smell gets in the water? and do you think i could maybe catch chums on it to? its just a standard samon jig that they packaged as a "marabou steelhead jig" i saw a post on another forum saying sombody caught some nice silvers ont he same jig.

Yea jigs work for chums. Go with cerise colored jigs though. For chums though, just pick up some prawns from the grocery store and tip them with that.
