middle fork snoqualmie river
I was looking at a topo map of the rivers and I noticed there seems to be a road NF-56 that runs the entire length of the middle fork. Has anyone on here traveled that far? I love rivers that are way off the beaten path, and this looks like something worth checking out. Does the name mean it's a fire road? I can't tell if it's paved or not, and I don't know how far fish might travel up that river. It could make for a nice nature trip even if there aren't any fish.

I've traveled that road. Gravel most of the way, but it winds around and has a few rough spots. An SUV would be the recommended (but not required) mode of transportation.
You can pull out and fish wherever you find a good looking spot. All catch and release however. And the fish will not be very big (cutts and bows about 8-10 inches, with occasional ones a bit larger).
Fun to explore there, but my preference would be to hit more productive waters.

Thanks for the info. Where are there more productive rivers that are similar? I really like being off the beaten path when fishing. Traveling on a dirt road for a few miles before hitting the river is perfect. Me and a bud used to fish northern california on a small 50 dirtbike. pack the gear on your back and take off into the sticks until we came across a river. No stress, no noise, no competing fishermen for miles, and fish you have to sneak up on to catch. Just had to watch for bears. LOL.
that road was also fairly close to me in Sammaish. 30-45 minute drive is no prob for me, so if you know of any spots all the way up to Cle um I would be interested in checking them out.
Thanks

I have a book that might help:
Washington's Central Cascades Fishing Guide
by Dave Shorett
Covers alpine fishing from Carnation to Cle Elum, lakes and rivers/streams. Describes how to access and the fish in each water.
