Satsop?

Post by racfish » Fri Aug 29, 2008 12:45 pm

Has anyone been to the Satsop area to look at river conditions or tried for salmon yet this season? The Satsop get a large run of big fat silvers that hit through Dec.If anyone looks or sees the river can you report it? please.... I'll be in the east on sat and north Camano Sun.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

As of last week the Satsop was low and clear. Real Low. As far as Salmon I don't think it opens until Oct. 15.
The rain we've had the last few days may have raised it a little, but not enough to move the fish into the Satsop. They are probably moving into the lower Chehalis now.
Along with those big fat Silvers there is an awesome run of Dogs about the same time. They are a lot of fun.

Ive caught so many doggies on the Satsop it isnt funny. One day my back was killing me.I target Coho and Steelies on the Satsop.I read the regs and Oct 15 is the opener for salmon. The Satsop can be a great river for very big Coho.I've gotten some biggies there.

I tried the satsop last year and all I saw was ruby colored salmon, boots and a whole mess of snaggers. You would probably be better off fishing he chehalis as the fish are more willing biters and a lot brighter.
Just my 2 cents

Im probably not fishing where you went. All my years fishing the Satsop I've not seen snaggers ever.I usually park at Schafer park and walk down a mile or so.The Chehalis is a nice river.

I didn't fish it but gave it a good look last Saturday morning just west of the state park north of Elma. Looks very clear and just a hair below the normal flow output. Basically just beautiful....
