Plunking rod

I like being able to take the wife and baby to the river fishing and still be able to pay attention to them. So for me, plunking is a great option. I gave it a whirl this weekend but I was using my drift gear with 5 oz pyramid sinker and thought I was gonna snap that fast tip right off. So what is a decent inexpensive rod I can use for plunking ? Anybody got one they want to get rid of? I've been looking at some cheap Daiwa trolling rods that seem to be able to handle heavy lures.

For plunking the lower rivers I use my salmon mooching rods.First off the lower rivers have high salt content ,snags can be old growth lumber submerged,also some fish you hook will reel you if you have to light of gear.I sometimes use my Fenwick salmon rods also with the Ambassador 6000c reel.When the tides are low the river can get real fast moving and you might need a 6 oz. pyramid weight which is harder to cast with a real light pole.Also put a bell on the tip.That way if youre watching your kids along the river the bell will sound if a bite occurs.Good luck...

Thats what I use as well... Listen to Racfish. If you don't need to cast far a downrigger rod will work. :thumleft:
