Can't believe the lower Snohomish opens in just 17 days!

I fish in the lower Skagit a lot. Mostly around Mt. Vernon. Over there, we mostly witch jigs, plunk sand shrimp on a spin-n-glow or just plunk/drift dick nites.Brat Bonker wrote:does anyone here catch pink and coho in the lower Skagit (like concrete down area) at the same time like in august or September and would those hoochie jigs work for both?

Beachbum, over at the sandbar or parking lot?

Re: Its Almost That Time
do you catch silvers in the mix too and during what times, we are planning on fishing down there more this summer/fall as we normally target salmon around marblemount.beachbum97 wrote: I fish in the lower Skagit a lot. Re: Its Almost That Time
In August on the lower skagit silvers will be mixed in with the humpys. Its just a pain when you try for a silver and your getting humpys every cast. In the early mornings I'll plunk my homemade spinners for silvers then when it gets bright and hot its time to switch to humpys.

Im going down this week with the clippers and trimming back blackberrys in a few spots! Talked to one of the farmers, gonna trade some smoked slam-on for some fishing rights on his property. All you gotta do is ask!

Now with the new boat i dont know how much I will be doing any bank fishing..... May still have to take the kids out plunking with some spin and glows and sandshrimp.... Lets them play a bit while waiting for a bite.... otherwise they get bored and want to go home too soon...

Re: Its Almost That Time
Yea having a boat is nice! I will be boating it on the weekends when i have a little more time more then likely. I dont like dealing with either of the launches on the snoho. Complete and total mad house during humpie season. and now that i got my own little private area on the beach for those quick trips ill probably spend less time in the boat! i think the mouth of the stilly is really underated for fishing for pink when it opens on the first. 2 years ago when the river opened and everyone is up river catching so-so fish, we were down on the mouth cleaning house on chromers.chongo469 wrote:Now with the new boat i dont know how much I will be doing any bank fishing..... Re: Its Almost That Time
I normally launch at Langus park and just scoot up river from there..... easy launch and close to me ( Marysville ) plus Ive never had to wait more than 10 min to get boat in the water...

Re: Its Almost That Time
yeah we are probably going to hit the stilly at haller park this year as well on the way to the cabin. tried it last pink season and it seemed to be more coho jumping than there were pink and that was like late sept.
Re: Its Almost That Time
Much better spots in silvana and by the mouth. Ballet park will produce fish but do some scouting and you will much better spots!!Brat Bonker wrote:yeah we are probably going to hit the stilly at haller park this year as well on the way to the cabin. tried it last pink season and it seemed to be more coho jumping than there were pink and that was like late sept.

Re: Its Almost That Time
was up campin on the skagit in mt vernon over the weekend and saw some fish rolling. were they sockeye? or are we in for a very early run
Re: Its Almost That Time
What part of Skagit? They are sockeye. Maybe an early humpie or two but mostly sockeye right now and they are not open to fish for.
