I grew up with Coal creek in my back yard. I've caught many cutts and rainbows. I don't know how the cutt run is anymore but late Aug into Sept for them. Look for any pooling with cover spots for hiding. You have to be very sneaky when you aproach the creek. They can see you. Fly's are best floated into their areas but a tiny single egg hook with one egg on it should work too.

This part is extremely dangerous so I would take care and read the signs. Coal Creek goes into Coal Creek or Newcastle park off of 164th on the back side of Cougar Mtn can't remember what they named it. It's full of old coal mines. Some of the mines outgas CO2, That can asphyxiate you in short order. You're dead. So with that said Coal creek runs through and has flooded many of the mines. they hold rainbows. The creek it's self runs for a close to a mile underground through a culvert. If you can find the spots that are broken through, you've hit the bonanza. Just drop a single egg to the bottom and wait. The bows will be small, 8 to 10 inches but when the cutts are in....... I've pulled many 18+ inchers from the holes.

The mines can be extremely dangerous!!!!!!! We learned as kids to look for the signs. Dead birds around the openings mainly. I think they have them pretty well posted and fenced off now but if you're bushwacking off the trails you need to be aware. You can fall through into old shafts as they just put a few pieces of wood over the holes in the early 1900's. The wood is rotted and the dirt is held in place with little roots and stuff.

Take care.

Green has some nice bow's as well, sea run cutt's there are fished out though, from all the past steelheading so i doubt coal creek cutt's are as good as they used to be, but hey nowhere is anymore.
