Working a spoon
I was bottom bouncing a Dick Nite yesterday, then my rig got fouled and it was dark. So, I tied on a 1/2 oz spoon. How do you work the spoon? Do you do like I did and just tie it on the end on the main line?
I could feel the bottom, and slowly reeled. Any tips?
Thanks,
Gary

You fishing for humpies?
FYI I've never seen people have too much luck with big spoons for pinks...Smaller presentations seem to work better and it's tough to work a 1/2 oz spoon correctly at the bottom of a deep pool. If you were to do it, tie to end of mainline, but I'd go back to the Dick Nite setup, use a dropper, and keep working that setup to produce fish..

RE:Working a spoon
Thanks Sam,
With Dick Nites is it necessary to use the suggested 6"-10" dropper? I have been using the rubber bouncing betties and I like how I can feel the bottom well and they dont get caught up. They work really well for slower current. The thing is the rig gets fouled up with the dropper wrapping around the mainline. I want to just attach the betty to the line with a swivel or thread the mainline through the eye on the betty, but I'm not sure if I'll get the correct action that the suggested 6"-10" leader allows.
any thoughts?
Gary

RE:Working a spoon
When i'm fishing dick nites i just use a slip bullet style weight above a swivel, with a 3 foot or so leader to the dick nite. It's plenty enough weight to get you near the bottom, and it won't foul up the way you are describing.

RE:Working a spoon
Without a dropper you lack the proper distance from the lure to the bottom and get less hookups. I am not saying you will not catch anything with only a slip sinker on your mainline for weight, I am saying you will have a better success rate with the dropper. As for the dropper getting tangled with your mainline, it is something that you will just have to deal with as it happens. The dropper is the best way to go though.
RE:Working a spoon
Yeah, actaully more like a carolina rig. And yeah, we've been catching fish all day when we go out. I also like to use a jig with no weight, similar to the one in picture on the Snohomish River thread that Sam started. I found that when I stop getting bit, if I switch up my lure, the action usually picks up again.noclothes1 wrote:Drewp,
