leaders and droppers rule of thumb?

Post by noclothes1 » Mon Sep 24, 2007 6:51 pm

Are there any formulas or rules of thumb as far as leaders and drppers go in the area of lenght?

I'm trying to make sure my Dick Nite or corky is in the strike zone. I'm sure it depends a bit on the current but any tips would be appreciated.

No slamon for me yet but I did catch my first Dolly Varden.

Is that 6 - 10 inches from the bottom of the river, or length of leader? I've used upwards to 4 feet of leader to insure that the lure is at least 6 inches off of the bottom(of course, I have NO idea if it's really that far off of the bottom). That's probably overkill. Of course, that also depends on the site of the lure too (how heavy), right?

6-12 inch dropper length. Any longer and it gets really horizontal and doesn't help out much, and then I use a 3 foot leader to my dick nite.
