just picked up the lamiglas xmg50 8'9 xtra fast tip, 10-20lb, 1/2 - 1 3/8 oz rod, would this be strong enough to handle big kings(for next season)? it seems to really bend alot in the top but the middle and below show pretty good backbone, ive never really been the guy to test a rods strength lol, im always scared that i might snap the tip lol

i have landed 20#+ kings on my XMG50 8-15, you just have to play them a bit. the xmg is a tough rod with a lot of power. i would not fear any fish with that rod.

ok, cuz im just so used to my daiwa dxs rod which was more of a moderate bend but heavier action that i was unsure, but its a great rod so far,

that xmg is gonna make your daiwa feel like a broom stick

i landed a 25# king on my lamiglas xmg50 4-8 this year. took 30 minutes, but don't be afraid of the rod. it will treat you right.

whew! thanks whats your favorite ratings for a king drift rod? for like corky yarn setups?

TFO 8-17 9 foot is my new favorite rod great all around setup for all river species. Plus a good warranty.

yup, the TFO is a pretty solid stick. i like to use it in areas where i don't want to risk damaging my XMG.

This is by far my most favorite rod on the market ! Great power and sensitivity. This year I also landed a 25lb king on my XMG but mine is an 8-12. Normally this light of a rod is more for steelhead but I use it for both species. The only negative I have on the rod is that the tip is a little weak. This rod will definitely get the job done for you !

I don't trust them. I've had three XMG's and they all broke on the first fish they hooked, the first trip i took them out. I have broken and warranty replaced 3 different Lamiglas rods and they all had the same problem.

They are sweet, sensitive rods that are a pleasure to fish with. I wish I could trust them, but I can't. But yes, in theory, that is a great rod for what you are wanting to do with it. It's beefy, and that XMG graphite is sensitive and feels like a glove in hand. Be very very careful with how you store it, where you put it in the car and get a sleeve and case for it, because their warranty service takes forever.

If you drive down to the headquarters in Woodland the warranty service takes 5 mins.

That's what I've heard. I may have to do that once, and see. I've got three busted lami's that I haven't picked up in a year.

Even if they do not make the model that you have broken they will make a new blank and build the rod for you.

exactly! i just dropped off a rod that they do not make any longer and they gave me a loaner rod to fish while they build mine. all my experiences with Lamiglas have been great.

not sure how you break so many rods Nate, but it seems like you snap a lot on first fish. i have personally landed over 200 fish on my xmg50 without a single issue. only time i have busted a rod was because of user error, not the fault of the rod.

i even bought a factory second xmg50 from the factory store and have yet to have a single issue.
