Is it permissable to remove a snag from the river?There are holes I fish that in the low water I've seen some garbage items not rocks or logs.Does anyone know if you can clean your favorite hole as long as you dont remove the natural snags logs or rocks?Is there a written law on this.?

I've never heard of a written law on it. I have seen people pull junk out of the river quite often.
As long as it's not left on the river bank I don't see a problem

My rule of thumb is; If it's man made,remove it. If it's Mother Nature's, don't move it. That has always served me well.

I dont know the exact regs on this, but I don't see why you coudl't do that. Especially if its man made. In fact the WDFW would probably appreciate it if you did that.

I would check with the "landlord" of the land, i.e. National Forest, DNR, State, Tribal Authority, etc.

Fun is a requirement to fishing.I was waiting for a good remark.If you dont have fun fishing catch or not,if its not a good time always then youre in the wrong sport.Bravo to you Handeyman.Some folks get wayyyyyy to serious about these posts.

The Landlord would be G-d as I see it.I pray to Him(Her) everyday.I talk to G-d but the only voices I hear back come out of my tacklebox.I thought about the sediment also.Hopefully the shopping basket hasnt been there too long. I remember it towards the end of the season last year.I lost a few set ups on it.Im calling the WDFW.If I remember last year in a thread someone mentioned that youre not allowed to cut away log jams either. Thanks for the replys.

I actually talked to a warden on the Sky a couple of years ago about the ever growing problem of trash and debris in the river and he told me to remove it if possible to do so as long as it is man made material (TRASH!). Do not worry about the amount of sediment that gets stirred up from removing the trash, the water will dillute it enough where it is not a problem. Just think how much sediment and other junk is washed down river during high waters.

Help keep our waters clean and pristine by removing all of the crap us humans have left.

I had a landscaping company for 20 years and I was told that I could not clean out anything in the creeks that was a natural item aka. Floatsome. Only Jetsome ( man made junk) was ok to remove. A good friend of mine was fined $10,000 for pulling some logs out of a river so the river would not cause the bank to erode and loose his home. His home is still standing and the the price was actually ok just to save the home. I hope you can justify any fine that might be imposed.

I read about a guy a few years ago that lived up on the Sauk River near Darrington that was doing something a little more extreme than your friend. Who ever it was, was trying to actually divert the river to save eroding property. Big time trouble for this person because the Feds may be in on it because of endangered species of fish.[-x

Well, since you didn't first mention the snag was a shopping basket, I would suggest returning it to Albertson's. They would really appreciate it.:thumright

I just called my friend, Jerry and he said that the fine was actually 10k because he was caught twice after being warned, for moving logs. He finally ended up paying $3500.
