Best hookset ever with a Rip'n Minnow... Double hooked a 12" bass and a 200lb anglerfish.
Here we are in the boat, just after said hookset:
And here at the ER before they did a nerve block on my finger to remove it.
Couldn't use the string technique because its unsafe (Fingers are necessary for my job) and because the hook was below the nailbed.
He used an extra long acting agent, so my finger will be numb until this weekend.....

Ouuuuch! That sucks. My son hit me in the back of the head last night with a bait. Luckily it was texas rigged and weightless. You are probably fortunate the numbing agent is long lasting. I almost stopped by last night but one of my boys was all done and I opted to put the boat on the trailer and head home.

Ouuch! That has to be one of the most painful areas on the hand. I put one in my thumb in that similar location a few years ago and man it hurt for days after words. I bet you put the death grip and the next little guy to eat a crank!

OK, that hurts, and it didn't even happen to me. Some information is just toooo much.
I hope that heals quick, sure would't want to keep you away from the water for long.
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

I'm a firm believer on pinching down all barbs. Doesn't matter if they are allowed, the barbs still all get pinched. Of course having been to the ER 3 times having trebles removed form my ear (twice), and scalp once has nothing to do with it

.
When I was a kid I fished a lot a night for bass with my dad. It seemed that he biiig ones would really bite well at night. Of course dad would get excited if he missed a strike and in his rush to get the lure back in the water he'd get me. Back in the day the hot lures were all surface floaters with a chugger lip and 4 small treble hooks. I'd get hooked, yelp, and dad would turn on the flash light and look at where it was hooked. He'd say "that doesn't look too bad, I'll unhook the treble and we'll fish a couple more hours". We'd stop at the ER on the way home and get the hook out.
Life's short - fish hard!

Kepra...
Did I mention I jabbed another one in my stomach today? Past the barb AGAIN....
This time, just a quick yank and out it came. Luckily it was a trout hook.

Is this a new piercing craze Gisteppo?
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

Finger fishing II:
I prided myself on being observant watching my older siblings face consequences of their actions then avoiding those actions. Well my observation skills must have gone by the wayside with age. I had been fishing for about 30 minutes without even a look. I thought that I'd try my brand new trout pattern Rapala. First cast, I caught a nice little 12 inch Rainbow. Thinking I could just grab the lure and shake him free proved to be a poor choice.
As you can see from the pictures (excuse the focus, taking them with my left hand alone), I did not take the lesson by Gisteppo to heart. The picture shows the working end of the hook adjacent to my nail. After burying the barb, I clipped off the distal portion of the hook from the treble and forced the point through :rambo: (actually more like :pale: )with pliers. Once I force the point through my skin is wasn't too bad. What else could I do, I'd just started fishing and wasn't going to let a little set back ruin my fishing:thumright

You are so right about the chance for infection. I've seen many including my dad's (hook to the finger - like father, like son)

. He needed surgical intervention - incision and drainage. Puncture wounds are notorious for infections since the outer layer of skin closes trapping bacteria. I cleansed the wounds and watched them like a hawk. Empirical antibiotic treatment may have been smart but, I knew that I could start antibiotics quickly with ANY signs of infection.
The pic shows 3 days after the injury.
