Best places to fish with kids?

Post by bigfishmama » Sat May 29, 2010 3:43 pm

Hey everyone!

We love to fish and are looking for great places to take the kids.

We don't currently have a boat so good spots from the dock or shore are needed.

Most 'kids places' aren't good for adults but we all want to join in the fun.

Four boys, ages 5 to 10, want to do some catching with their fishing.

Ideally in the South Sound region of Washington.

Help please! Thank you! [biggrin]

Bill's boathouse on american lake is a great place to fish and (the owner is very kid friendly). There's rockbass and perch in the shallows, with some really nice trout off the deep end. Also rainbow resort on tanwax lake is a good place to go.
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga, except i still get to kill something.

Right outside of Easton there are the ponds. They are fun for both kids and adults. All bank fishing.Another is all the ponds from Cle Elum in through the Yakima Drive. There are some 14 yo and younger ponds all in and around King County.Even the docks on Lk Wa are fun for kids.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Pine Lake over by Sammamish has a nice kid friendly fishing pier and adults can fish too. It can get kind of crowded, but I'm sure any nice fishing pier will be right now. There is also a swimming area, playground, and nice park with bathroom facilities right there for those with short attention spans and small bladders [thumbup] .

If you ever make it to the Seattle Area, I've always like Gene Coulon Park. It's got a huge dock for perch fishing and Ivers and a Kidd Valley next to the dock. Only thing that sucks is that they don't allow dogs there.

Thanks for all the tips and keep them coming! :)

American Lake was a great recommendation and we had a successful day of fishing with all the boys. Check my fishing report for all the details.

Sounds like a pretty good time. I love fishing that dock when i can control the urge to jump in a river.

Lake Sylvia in the town of Montesano 20 miles west of Olympia is a State park with swimming and playground equipment lots of spots to fish from the bank and off the bridge and down near the dam. My kids love it !! Bring a bag of instant light charcoal and what ever you want to grill and use the parks grills. bath rooms with showers if the kids get muddy are right behind the picnic area adjacent to the playground. We do this several times a summer as it's just a short ride from where we live. There are several trails at the park also for exploring. plus the otters geese and occasionaly a deer
