USA Today Poll on Gun ownership

Post by BentRod » Wed Feb 17, 2010 10:37 am

Subject: USA Today Poll on Gun ownership

Obama's new Attorney General, Eric Holder, has already said this is one of his major issues. He does not believe the 2nd Amendment gives individuals the right to bear arms. This takes literally 2 clicks to complete. Please vote on this gun issue question with USA Today. It will only take a few seconds of your time. Then pass the link on to all the pro gun folks you know. Hopefully these results will be published later this month. This upcoming year will become critical for gun owners with the Supreme Court's accepting the District of Columbia case against the right for individuals to bear arms.

The Question is:
"Does the Second Amendment give individuals the right to bear arms?"

The AG is an idiot and the current poll results reflect this. I thought that there would be some more support for the "no" cause, 97% of 5.7+ million votes for "yes" is astounding!

The Second Amendment has been proven to be stating that the rights are for the individual. Going by the personal notes of the founding fathers as they discussed that very point, that idividual right was proven. And not that many years ago either.

For an old poll... the poll count sure is still climbing fast enough. Click "Latest Results" a couple times. It also lets you vote more than once.

I'd like to know Holder's reasoning behind that. What does he think it means, the right to having arms similar to those of Grizzly Bears?

If I lost my 2nd amendment and the government decided to come "by" to take my guns, I would not give them up!
Ya never know what could go down at your house or neighborhood, I just may need some fire power to protect my
family and property! Legalities don't keep crooks from owning guns, just like drug laws don't keep drugs out of the
hands of addicts. The problem lies in the American melt down of a "nut job", someone who is more less nuts and gets a
hold of a gun. That is something hard to control but it might have a better outcome if someone nearby is packing a gun!
ABSOLUTELY- 2ND AMENDMENT GIVES THE RIGHT TO OWN AND BEAR FIREARMS our country was built upon this right!

I hate to use the old statement of "If you outlaw guns only the outlaws would have guns" but it is true. People who would commit crimes with any weapon do not care what laws are in affect. Also most of the weapons used in crimes are either stolen or brought into this country illegally, so the whole idea of banning guns would stop these types crimes is just per political banter trying to get the uneducated person ear and gain votes.

Agreed. It terrible that they also use tragedies like the Lakewood killings to help push their agendas in their quest for popularity. I want the tweekers guessing if they are going to encounter a P.O'd guy with a gun when they come in. If they take away the law abiding citizens right to own gun, crime is going to run rampant.

[thumbsup] Yes we do! However, other countries give their citizens the right to bare more than just their arms, if you get my drift! [blush]

Here is an article with multiple references to Holder's stance on the 2nd Amendment and gun control. Although it is biased toward gun advocates, it still quotes Holder and references his actions.

Just think, if someone in that Lakewood coffee shop had been carrying legally and had the opportunity to shoot that POS, things that morning may have been different. We hear about people walking in to businesses, colleges, events, and shooting innocent people and it seems like no one legally carrying a firearm is ever around. Granted as a bystander, you may only wish to deploy your own firearm if it was safe to do so (by that I mean able to do so without detection by the suspect) to stop a deadly assault. I never leave home without! I also believe it's unlikely that our right to possess firearms being will be taken away because we the public won’t stand for it. JMO.
