trophy trout!
well I noticed the bass forum has a sticky on trophy bass so I figured I'd start on for trout.
rules:
1. tell what you caught it on
2. it has to be the largest trout you have caught of that species.
3. please include a picture.
I'll start with my biggest, a 23in cutthroat I caught while trolling a large homemade "wedding ring" oh yeah I released it after this quick picture

RE:trophy trout!
Mine was 25 lb. 11 oz. Lake Trout a.k.a Mackinaw -June 1998
Unfortunately did not C&R as I had to get weighed on a certified scale. Missed the state record by a little over 2 lbs. until that record was beaten at Chelan soon after.
The fish did feed 13 people in celebration though.
Lure- Flatfish Lake- Loon Fishing solo with no electronics
The photo of me in the white shirt is an 18 lb. mack. Lure- spoon
These are just a few that I kept. Releasing good size fish is rewarding for stewardship and really fun when other boats see you hold it up or slide it back into the water.
I hope teen anglers see these as motivation.
Now work and family obligations limit my time on the water, but the patience learned and positive memories impact me still.

RE:trophy trout!
Sorry I can't keep the rules. I have no picture. It was an 8 1/4 pound Rainbow out of Waitts Lake in eastern Washington. I was fishing with my dad and trolling a rapala at the north end of the lake. We took it to one of the resorts on the lake and had it weighed on certified scales. Got my picture in the now defunked Outdoor Press. I took it home and ate it. Absolutely the worst tasting fish I've ever eaten. That was a lot of years ago and I'll never take a fish that big home to eat again.
Where you go is less important than how you get there.

RE:trophy trout!
I almost never carry a camera with me when I fish, so I can't show pictures. There is a post of several Browns I caught and kept from Rock Lake in Whitman County last year if you want to look, with the largest one over 5 #.big fish lite line wrote:well I noticed the bass forum has a sticky on trophy bass so I figured I'd start on for trout.

So, perhaps a little clarification in rules? Char are not trout, and Lake Trout and Brook Trout are Char. Do we include them or not?
Brook Trout - 8 #, taken at little lake in Southern Utah in the late 1960's. Caught on a streamer fly (Black Dose) right at dark.
Brown Trout - 14 #, caught in a lake in Colorado. Caught on a scud pattern, fly, early in the morning.
Rainbow Trout - 10#, caught on the Big Horn river in Montana, middle of February, on a special nymph I tie for that area.
Bull Trout (Also a Char) - You would not believe it if I told you, and the State of Idaho F&W prevented me from taking pictures of it so I have no proof anyway (yes, had a camera that day - long story). Caght on a plug while trolling.
I guess my wife is correct, I fish too much.
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

RE:trophy trout!
Thanks big fish - mackinaw are char, but given the name of Lake Trout people often don't associate them with their other relatives.

7# on the De-Liar? That means it was between 5# and 25# (LOL). I hate those things.No_Bad_Skunks wrote:25" 'Bow from Bench Lake, earlier this summer. Weighed in at 7#...but on a Zebco De-Liar.

RE:trophy trout!
I don't know if this will work right because I have been messing around with my computer and barley know how to use it. So here it goes.
19# hatchery steelhead I am the one on the right, My brother has a 12# and a 15#
Sorry about the P.O.S. J.Peg file, I don't know what is going on.
Next is a 27" Dolly Varden.
Sorry, these are the only two pics that I have at the moment, until I can figure out the problem that I am having with my computer. If it weren't for this site and YouTube I would go absolutely insane and destroy my computer. As soon as I figure out this problem I will download more pics.
