4 days left, Recommendations on Pots??
Alright fellow crabbers...i have a quick question on gear. i have crabbed a little the last couple years and have one of those cheap collapsible (green) square pots. works ok and has caught crab. this year i am going to invest in another pot. i was thinking one of those round orange/black collapsible pots. has anyone used them?? they are not to expensive, like $50. or should i go with the super cheapy ($25) again?? are those real fancy ones worth the money?? i know theft can be a problem, so i'll take that into consideration. finally, the age old question....Round or Square?? i can taste them already...
I have caught many fish in my life. The most exciting? The next one.....

for out in open water I would get yourself a round commercial pot that doesn't weight 100lbs and leaver it soaking overnight. you could probably find some for sale on cregs list. I'm not sure what you mean by "orange/black collapsible pots" but the square pots I tend to steer away from because the crab bend there way out and they are too lite which means they get swept away easier.

I use the standard 20.00 Danielson pot and I do real well crabbing. If the tide take it away or it is stolen like I hear alot of that happening.I dont leave site of my pots usually. At any rate I use the reg. rectangular pots .If you lose it big deal.Your out 20 bucks not 100.00 on a pretty cool round kind.Just my .02 cents
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

I also use the Danielson square pots. They work well, have access doors on all 4 sides, and they are inexpensive. I would not leave them overnight because they will likely be gone in the morning. I've had 2 stolen on 2 separate occasions. The worthless thieves are out there at night and they will at the least take the crab from your pots. You don't need fancy pots to catch crab. You do need good bait and the more doors they can enter the less work the crab have to do to get into your pot.
