I have been in a slump! Took 7 bulls in 11 years of bowhunting the Olympic Peninsula from 1981 through 1991. Quit hunting, well, I guess because I lost interest.

In 2005 I picked it back up, again, and took a bull that year and then the next.

Then my slump started.

I went three years without even getting a shot. I had passed on a few bulls in hopes of getting one a little bigger. That didn't work.

Finally, this year I broke the slump with a decent 5x6. He isn't the biggest, in fact, this bull is the second smallest that I have ever killed with a bow, but, I got one:)

He was a loner and I was cow talking. I worked my way in. I startled him at 25 yards because I did not know that he was that close. He turned to run and I chirped. He stopped at just over 30 yards, broadside, and looked back. I seen a nice wide spread and height on the antlers and a nice fork at the top. I had to re-position to find a hole through the brush, but managed that with just two steps sideways as I was drawing back. I let the arrow fly and heard the thud.

The arrow passed through, went thirty more feet up the hill and lodged 20" into the hillside. Took me nearly an hour just to find the arrow. The shot was a double lung. My first animal shot with a Slick Trick Broadhead, and, to say the least, I am impressed. They do fly EXACTLY like my field points, yes, but the devastation was immense. This bull was dead in 6 to 8 seconds. He went about 18 yards and that was that.

What I didn't see were the short eye guards and brow tines but I am not complaining. I am most happy with this guy.

I cleaned, skinned and boned the elk out and then hung the bags of meat in a tree. The following day, a friend and I took 9 hours to double pack the meat out. It is at Stewart's Meats and I got the call last night that it was ready for pickup:)

So, for the next little while, I will be eating some fine jerky and jalapeno pepperoni[thumbsup], some burger and steaks, and, finally, the freezer is full.

I cannot figure out how to post pic's, so will try with photobucket. If this doesn't work, I will link to another site.

Congrats. I've never gotten a deer or an elk back when I hunted.

I just thought I'd help with those pictures a little bit.
