It's about time that they gave the NW their due.
Re: Cabela's in Yakima!!!!!
I wasn't thrilled with Cabelas opening in Lacey... Walked in and there was no salmon related tackle, but billfish/tuna/offshore type saltwater tackle was plentiful. Lets hope Cabelas management goes with a more local approach to their opening, rather than stocking the store with their generic blueprint of gear on the shelves...
I still think the prices on non-cabelas fishing gear (don't know about hunting or apparel or anything else in the store, wasn't looking) is pretty bad. Last I was in there Coyote Spoons were like $6 or $7 bucks and Hot Spot Flashers were like $15...
No thanks to Cabelas, my money goes towards local tackle shops....I like walking into 3Rivers/Teds/Johns/Outdoor Emporium and talking to guys who fish the same waters I do and they can point me to the right gear. They only stock what works and its competitively priced, no fancy markup cause they have a store full of taxidermy pieces and cafeterias and aquariums....

I've never been to Cabela's. I mostly go to Auburn Sports and Marine. Quite a bit online at Bass Pro Shops, and now and then online at Cabela's.

The Cabela's on the Wa/Id border took a while to provide gear for the local fishing. They probably have a standard package that they put in until they see what is selling. It is a nice place to visit but the prices are better else where with the exception of the sale stuff. The closest Bass Pro is in Colorado so it would be nice to get one in Washington. We were in Kansas City and the two were only 3 miles apart.

Re: Cabela's in Yakima!!!!!
I just got home from KC yesterday and enjoyed being a short drive from both places. Cabelas does indeed customize their store selection quite a bit in each location, which is part of why I go their a lot when I'm on business trips. I was in Austin last month and their Cabelas has absolutely nothing I was even interested in buying. The Minnesota store, however, was full of tons of lures that, while maid for their local fisheries, will work extremely well on some of our local fish and a lot of it I got on clearance.
I wouldn't hold my breath on ever getting a BPS, though. They are much less versatile with their inventory, from my experience, and would really have to work hard to provide the inventory needed in the northwest.

Re: Cabela's in Yakima!!!!!
I am lookin forward to the cabelas in Marysville/tulalip to open this spring. I am hoping that they carry more of the fishing gear we use around hear. The wash/idaho border one was a pretty cool store when I was there, but I was not impressed with what they stocked!!! It was not like what is available online, however they will have the site to store shipping for free, to save on shipping cost. I will most likely continue to purchase fishing gear from the locals, hook line and sinker, Johns, teds, three rivers, ect.

Limitout Marine has some bass stuff now. I'll be shopping there now and then also.

Re: Cabela's in Yakima!!!!!
so what's the difference between the standard Cabelas and the Outpost version?
I generally buy my fishing gear from Tackle Warehouse or Basspro. I hate shopping around and spending time looking.

Cabelas stores aren't about getting a good deal on your outdoor gear, they are set up to be a one stop shop with a Nordstroms type of service and return policy. Most of the stuff I buy from them is online from their bargin cave. For real deals I head to Sportco and Outdoor Emporium.

Re: Cabela's in Yakima!!!!!
My guess/hope for the folks of Yakima would be that they stick to their core hunting and fishing lines and eliminate some of the fluff that takes a ton of square footage. Eliminate the boating section, a lot of the clothing, and stuff like the cooking section and you'd save a lot of space.
