Re: What to do ... with Chum Salmon

If they're bright fish (no signs of color on the sides) then chum is pretty good pan seared. Once they get a little bit of color showing then I smoked them with a sweeter brine and brushed with real maple syrup. Comes out great imo. Once they get past a little bit of color, I'd let them go so they c...

Re: I am trying to learn how to trap crawdad

Try looking for fallen trees, lots of limbs, or rocks. Crawdad love hiding under that stuff. I usually use a couple handfuls of cheap dog food and a couple cheap hot dogs in my traps but I'll tie in a chicken thigh with the dog food if its gonna soak overnight. Bait is more of a personal preference ...

Re: Looking for bait and bobber sure thing for 7 YO

Logboom park on lake WA is almost a sure thing for perch or sunfish this time of year but it's not all that atmospheric. Almost any pier in the sound will have shiner perch that are easy to catch either with a herring jig or a small egg hook with a piece of worm on it. And if your willing to come a ...

Re: Baitcaster vs. Spinning Gear

I'm pretty comfortable with either reel, my decision on which to use usually comes down to line control. If for example I'm planning on drift fishing or swinging hardware in the river the baitcaster wins hands down. An educated thumb is better then anything for quickly applying more or less drag on ...

Re: Stocked Trout Fishing

You're bait should be floating close to leader length above the bottom when fishing powerboat or a marshmallow combo (or any floating type bait). Ditch the flouro leader and use a good light mono and you're bait will be running about right. Flouro is a heavy line that sinks which keeps your bait a l...

Re: How to target the holdovers?

They look pretty good from what I'm seeing. I'm about 15 minutes from one of the best crappie lakes here and I'm within about the same drive to 5 different rivers that have good catfish, bass, and bluegill populations. I just need to get time to toss a line out ](*,) unfortunately I'm probly a month...

Re: How to target the holdovers?

I made it to Arkansas about a week ago but I've been too busy getting everything switched to AR from WA that I haven't had time to fish yet [blush] A lipless crank would work running along those deeper trees but you'd probly need like 4lb mainline to keep from retrieving too far off the structure. P...

Re: How to target the holdovers?

If I was targeting holdovers, I think trolling 3in crankbaits that'll get down to 12 to 15ft range for the deeper parts of the lake or jointed rapalas in water less then 10ft would be my 1st choice. Sandshrimp smelly or krill smelly jelly will get those plugs smacked a lot more. Also if you see larg...

Re: Mandate Barbless Hooks For Lake Sammamish
The lake now turns over with much more algae and crud than before
The usual culprit for this in urban lakes is fertilizer runoff from the pretty yard crowd that then fuels algae blooms. Top that off with various pesticides and you see the lower end of the food chain die ...

Re: Mandate Barbless Hooks For Lake Sammamish

I wasn't being serious bud. Those tasty perch are hard to to kill off once they get good numbers in a lake, I've tried hard on lake Stevens with nothing to show for my efforts bud some good eating lol I can see a targeted rule for the salmonids there being something that would work. I just never lik...

Re: Mandate Barbless Hooks For Lake Sammamish

I'd be learyof regs done like that. My reason is this, once a standard like that is set then it will eventually creep across other lakes with similar circumstances or species. So unless there's a definable conservation need and reasoning my thoughts are why give the precedent to move fisheries to mo...

Re: Statewide deregulation of Bass and HB 1579

i'll be honest, i was never a fan of limits and management in the past on lakes that salmon actually use. But the truth of the matter is the runs are dwindling and habitat restortation like that won't offset the sheer number of puget sound fish that get caught commercially up in alaska or canada, or...
