Re: Lo-vis bank fishing techniques

Spoons, spinners, twitching jigs can work well in a low vis river...I usually run bigger size or brighter colors depending what the fish want. As for eggs store bought are OK but not as good as curing yourself. That said if store bought is all you can get run some scent on them. I like the procure w...

Re: General Shore fishing (not salmon) on Whidbey Island

All those beaches can be good for silvers. A 2 1/2" or a 3W buzz bomb with a hoochie is probly the standard for beach fishing silvers. Herring strips or cutplugged under a bobber can be really good too. Early morning incoming tides are the best, but any incoming tide has potential. Look for current ...

Re: Crappie in Black Lake, Thurston Co.

I can't show you any spots (I'm a bit away from there) but crappie love wood...docks, fallen trees, limb piles. Rock piles are good place to check too. I'm no expert but those are the types of places I've found them with any consistency. They can be a weird fish though cause at times they'll school ...

Any signs of pinks around dash yet?

I'm flying back up there for a week on the 12th. I really don't wanna deal with flying with a rod unless the pinkos are at least starting to show at dash point. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Fishing for deep trout with a drop rig

Only way to know for sure is to give it a shot, but there's no reason I see that it wouldn't work. Jigging a 2" buzzbomb would work well for that as well.

No worries...if you have sand shrimp the pilings under purdy bridge get some good sized perch around them too

Re: Sand dab/flounder fishing from shore

Wading the incoming tide around the fox island bridge and purdy beach was always good for me. I mainly used night crawlers on a single drop rig, caught more starry around purdy but there's good sized flounder at both places. As far as public piers go...well they so much pressure that if you ain't th...

Maxima ultra green or pline cxx xtra strong are both very abrasion resistant and are very good mono for river fishing.

Re: Spinning Reel Advice

I got a couple of 2500 shimano siennas. They've held up held up great against chum, pinks and trout up there. I use them for gar and bowfin mostly down here since the move. I've had them for about 5 years and out side a little lube now and then and a bail spring replacement they still run smooth. I ...

Re: Versitile Lingcod Rod

Maybe a 7'6" okuma celilo rod. It's fast enough action to jig with and it's rated to about 3 ounces. I've used jigs on my old one up to about 5 with no problems. And they pretty cheap, especially if you can find a sale.

Re: The joys of AR

There's a couple bait shops that have tanks full of minnows and goldfish. The guys running trot lines really like goldfish for some reason here. I don't buy much bait here since I'm allowed to use a castnet. A few throws and I usually got enough bluegill or shad to fish for a day or 2. Some days I e...

Re: Questions about catching baitfish in Puget Sound

Baitfish gear has it's own set of regs.i believe 9 hooks on a sabiki was the rule lat I was up there. You can actually use a 3 treble hooks to snag bait as well but be careful because there's a gap size rule for treble. Plus you might run across a warden that thinks your just snagging fish in general.

The joys of AR

Since I moved to Arkansas last year I haven't been able to fish near as much as I did back on WA but I can say my time on the water is about good as it gets. Over the last 18 months I've found a fish called a bowfin that gets to about 10lbs that are eager biters and they fight light a chum with an a...

Re: Those castable crab snares....

Snares are great if get the right ones. I used to buy mine off ebay. My preference was ones that had the loops tied out of 50lb mono. The loops would cinch right up in the leg clusters on crab pretty easily and hold them there. The danielson ones that most stores carry have too stiff of loops to rea...

Re: Leaders w/a Kastmaster lure

I add a small barrel swivel to the front splitring on all my kastmasters to help prevent line twist...then I figured out a surgeon loop on my main line made it easy to swap them out. I pretty much do the same thing with with all my trout size spoons and spinners. But to your point. I don't use leade...

Re: What to do ... with Chum Salmon

If they're bright fish (no signs of color on the sides) then chum is pretty good pan seared. Once they get a little bit of color showing then I smoked them with a sweeter brine and brushed with real maple syrup. Comes out great imo. Once they get past a little bit of color, I'd let them go so they c...
