Re: Ice Reports 2013-2014

Anyone been on Silver or Hog Canyon in the last couple of days? With the warm temps and rain, I'm curious how it's holding up. Hope to hear from somebody tonight, I might go out tomorrow morning.

Re: Ice Reports 2013-2014

For anyone interested in conditions in Idaho panhandle, we fished Avondale and Fernan yesterday. Both had very good ice up to about 9". Smooth and snow-free. Landed two dink perch at Avondale and one nice rainbow at Fernan. Avondale is a private lake (it's lined by homes on one side and a golf cours...

Re: slide-in truck camper

I know nothing about the truck campers, but if you want more info about the pop-up campers PM me. I got a little 8'-er with a sink & two burner stove. Got it cheap and spent this summer restoring it. I found a pop up forum that I got a lot of information from it for setup, insulation, storage, etc....

slide-in truck camper

hi all, i always enjoy getting advice from you guys, here's my latest quandry... i bought a pickup this spring and hope to buy a slide-in camper for it by next spring. i'm not interested so much in debating features, length, weight, the pickup setup, etc but rather hard-sided vs. the pop-up kind. my...

Re: Why is the boat steering wheel on the right side?

VERY interesting topic, I have always wondered the same thing. Great find, Bodofish! Related topic: When I was a boating newbie and pulling tubers/skiers/boarders, I was schooled to circle the lake with my shoulder to the shore. Anyone else ever heard the same? I assumed it was so that you had the b...

Re: Tow with outboard up or down?

ouch, sorry to hear that! in my case the hydraulics that lift/lower the unit are rigid so it doesn't bounce. i would guess that the kickstand is more to prevent the drive from lowering due to the hydraulics bleeding off after time and sagging. but i'm sure there's some benefit during towing too.

Tow with outboard up or down?

I pull an 18' Lowe with a 40hp jet outboard. I have power tilt and a "kickstand" for locking it in the upright position, but I tow it with the drive down for two reasons: a) being a jet, there's no prop to drag on a driveway, speedbump, etc; and b) because in my non-engineer opinion, it seems like l...

Re: How to scrap a boat?

I have "scrapped" out 3 boats to date in the Spokane area. They have to be stripped of all motors. The built in gas tanks need to be empty. I then took them to the north transfer station. They charged normal weight. I paid $32 for the lightest one and $45 for the heaviest one. Nothing to do with ti...

Re: How to scrap a boat?

UPDATE: I found info on WA's abandoned vessel program, and more interestingly, stumbled upon information on Snohomish County's RV/boat recycling program, which which would cost approx $100/ton for disposal (by appointment only). Looking for a similar program in Spokane County...

How to scrap a boat?

I have an opportunity buy the trailer I need, but it comes with a free junker boat. There's enough parts on board to pay for the trailer, but I don't have anywhere to store the boat while I piece it out. So the question is: Has anyone ever take a boat to the scrapyard/dump? A few things came to mind...

Re: New Truck: 1/2 ton or 3/4? gas or diesel?

Thanks everyone for your input. HewesFisher for the stats, and others for your opinions and real-world MPG numbers. Your info has pretty much confirmed I'll go heavy-duty, but considering I'll be 90% commuter/10% heavy-hauler I think I'll skip diesel and just suffer crappy mileage while towing. I ju...

Re: Sea Sickness medication

I can't speak to any ocean-going techniques because I've never been, just wanted to toss out there that Dramamine does make a drowsy-free version. It seems every spring I have to get my sea legs back when I pull boat out of storage and boat the rough waters in spring. I used to just accept getting s...

New Truck: 1/2 ton or 3/4? gas or diesel?

Thought I'd lob this out there, see if I can get some real-world advice and not marketing B.S. from manufacturer or dealer... I am contemplating trading in my Tahoe for a 4-door pickup. I will miss the 3rd row option, but find I need a truck more often and am tiring of getting the utility trailer ou...

Re: Hog Canyon / Fourth of July - How's the fishing???

Anyone ever taken a 2 wd 4 cyl. pick-um-up truck down the Hog canyon road in 12 inches of snow ? dunno if you were joking, but i'll bite... i wouldn't take my 4x4 v8 tahoe down there with 12" of snow. i probably wouldn't even attempt it at half that much snow. even a little rain would leave it grea...

Re: Sonic dog whistle for neighbor's barking dog??

If you have spoken with your neighbor and they still don't want to do anything about it, file a noise complaint with the police department or animal control, that will get the ball rolling. We all have talked with them in the past, and to their credit are doing their best. They try to get her in as...

Sonic dog whistle for neighbor's barking dog??

Anyone know of an effective sonic (subsonic? ultrasonic?) whistle or other product I could use on a neighbor's barking dog? ](*,) This friggin' dog barks starting at 6am and barks off & on all day, especially if I am in the back yard working or eating on the deck. I'd like to try something that woul...

Re: Hog Canyon / Fourth of July - How's the fishing???

Anyone have a general idea where to fish at these two lakes? I have never been to either. This will be my first time ice fishing in WA due to the fact I just move to spokane last summer. I been doing some homework and seems like hog lake isn't that big? From what it looks like, starting from thethe...

Re: Hog Canyon / Fourth of July - How's the fishing???

we had a good day Sunday. we decided to get there earlier than last time, and got there about 8. within 20 minutes I had a super-fat 14" one on the ice. we had dead spots in the action for anywhere from 30-90 minutes. in fact the joke was, there was just a single group of fish lapping the lake and i...
