Re: Big Gold Fish
Yep, pretty much same here. I grew up between Sunnyside and Outlook and spent my younger years in the I-82 ponds, various honey holes on the lower Yakima River, Rimrock lake, the Tri-Cities delta, Ringold/Vernita, and the Columbia. There were always mason jars of rollmop in the fridge in the garage!

Re: Big Gold Fish
It's how my Grandpa used to fish for sturgeon back when I was a kid before all the slot limits etc were in place. You took a big 5/0 treble on a steel leader and slid it down inside the foot of a pair of pantyhose. Then he either stuffed the foot with rollmop herring that had been sitting out a coup...

Re: Aluminum or Galvanized Trailer?
Absolutely right Jerry! That why I say a reputable outfit. If done correctly the entire trailer should be dipped in Phosphoric acid or combination of acids to neutralize any rust and render the steels surface inert. In the marine industry it's called Ospho and all steel should be treated before pai...

Re: Kokanee Rods
A lot of people use the red lami koke rods to troll sockeye over at the Brewster pool, so don't be afraid to try em on something a little bigger!

Re: Big Gold Fish
I've caught a bunch of them out of Buena pond (I-82 Pond #6) and my Grandma always loved using them for fertilizer in the garden. I used to cut some of the skin into thin strips with some meat and freeze it to use later for cut bait, or let it rot in a bucket and then strain the bits into pantyhose ...

Re: spooling spinning reels
You are all making making it too difficult. Lay the spool flat on the ground and pull off some line. When you lay the line back down on the ground it should not twist up. If it does, turn the spool over to the other side and wind your line on that way. 1.Do this ^ to find out which way the line was ...

Re: Aluminum or Galvanized Trailer?
Sand blast your trailer and have it powder coated or just scotchbrite it and shoot it all with a thick coat of bedliner(pretty cheap). Both are far more resistant to chips, scratches, etc than paint. Any other holes etc I use rubber grommets and weatherstrip adhesive (yellow gorilla snot) to keep wa...

Re: Hood Canal Sea-Run Cutthroat Fishing
You could also troll slowly into the current and just use 2 jet divers on two rods out back, and 2 dipsy divers (they are directional so you can send one to each side without getting into the jetdivers) with a 1oz weight snapped on ahead of each diver with regular rod holders to get you down without...

Re: best spinning setup for $200
I wasn't trying to talk him into a real Loomis rod. I was simply explaining that people should not consider that because TFO has a licensing agreement that allows them to call it a Gary Loomis signature edition that it is comparable to the regular Loomis produced rods. I consider it the same as the ...

Re: best spinning setup for $200
There was been a lot of widespread conjecture on the TFO Loomis stuff. No one really seems to know how much he is really involved in the project, but it seems that the extent of his involvement is they are using a set of blank tapers that he designed some time ago, that they licensed from him. The b...

Re: best spinning setup for $200
Option 1:I have both of the Berkley Air models, an IM7 and IM8 with ZERO issues. i would not hesitate to recommend them. Match that with a Pflueger Arbor long cast reel and you still have money to spare. Option 2 would be a Lamiglas G1307 which can be had on sale for $150 along with a Pflueger Presi...

Re: Picking a new rod, need help
Also remember that big blades create more drag especially if you are going to be running a fast ratio reel like the Revo in 7.1 speed. A heavy big bladed spinner bait on a fast retrieve requires a stout rod. You also need to give us a budget since you are taking about a $200+ discrepancy between the...

Re: Weekend Trout Lake Recommendations?
I would 2nd the Greenlake recommendation. The 65th street dock on the East side is a decent choice. The T-dock near the boat rental, N. E. side as well. Again though as was said.. cold water = slow fishing, but they are being caught. I know that "Hate" is a strong word... but i HATE ballinger. not ...

Re: Weekend Trout Lake Recommendations?
IMHO the best place to try would either be the bank area north of the dock @ Lake Ballinger, or the North dock @ Blackmon's Lake in Snohomish. Ballinger is a bit bigger and the water has some flow so it shouldn't be quite as cold, but Blackmon's has been my luckier spot. They put about 6000 planters...

I have never had any warranty issues with any of the big companies that ended up being unresolved. That being said it is widely regarded that for reels Shimano is one of the best. Of the companies that I personally have had warranty work done I can say that Pfleuger and Penn have been flawless, as h...

I might agree if it didn't have a higher review score. Since the reviews were 2 years apart its not like your going to get a head to head other than to compare the incremental values.
