Re: Snoho/Sky/Wallace Open for Coho!!!

I accept survival tactics to aid in the evolution of a species so salmon destroying another's eggs makes good sense! It brings up a conundrum- after eggs are doctored up for fishing, there is no way they smell like natural eggs. Plus the imitations are usually plastic. I would think man's doctored e...

Re: Snoho/Sky/Wallace Open for Coho!!!

Pretty interesting argument. I only fish freshwater so my issue is with salmon eating salmon eggs. My question or statement is this: I've cleaned so many salmon and I've never seen salmon eggs in their stomachs. In fact, I find nothing there. It goes with the long-held statement that salmon don't ea...

Re: Snoho/Sky/Wallace Open for Coho!!!

My 2 cents - I don't like the snagging at all. I also don't like the tribal nets all over the rivers and I don't like the seals in the Columbia. I know this is a selfish view, but it is my feeling on issues like this. I grew up in So. CA and the fishing there is pretty awful now. I saw the ocean fis...

Thanks for posting the emergency rules. I read those but had forgotten if the Sky was indeed closed. It is closed.

I went down to the new boat ramp this morning. Heard of 1 fish caught. It sure is crowded! Nice launch compared to awful Cady.

Re: Hoodsport - Hood Canal Fishing Opportunities?

Too early for most. I'd try crabbing. Buy a crab pot and access it from your kayak. Would make your family happy to eat fresh crab. If you must fish, try cutthroat trout. Area is known for good cutts. Not sure if you can keep them this year. Later I've heard the upper Canal will be one of the few sp...

Re: Braid question

I just did a lot of reading on reels and eventually bought the Shimano 4000FL. Small for the strength. Smooth. Easily carries 30# braid. It was on sale at Cabelas for $89 awhile back. Rated very high when reading online. I started by ordering the 3000 online, but it was too small. Went to Cabelas an...

Re: WiggleFin Tackle - Introduction

Great invention. I have no firm idea where it will work best. It gives the wiggle of a jointed minnow but more so. It sure imparts action. The action on plastic worms is unique and I'm sure people will use it there. I'll buy some. Hope you make a fortune. I met the guy who invented the super bait. H...

Re: Id say we got a shaft once again!

I was happy checking out the various fishing reports until I got on this thread. I can't help but feel a lot of people think the Tribes are part of the endangered species to be protected. And it's true that their culture is endangered or even should be viewed as lost a long time ago. Whites treated ...

Re: salmon season set, to open soon

Great to see it resolved for this year. However, I fear this is a band aid. I like the phrase, "kick the can down the road". That is all this is. Big issue is - a growing population which won't stop running into special interest group's concerns. I'm not against special interest groups like the trib...

Re: What should we do now?

Great post Ian. Great because it nails a problem we are all frustrated with. IMO allowing gill nets is counter to recreational fishing. However, the problem is bigger than that. It is actually an example of one of many problems our country faces. I don't have time and it is not the correct forum to ...

Re: Watch what you say online - expose on treaty negotiation

Good discussion. I like ideas presented intelligently. Makes me want to come back. We whites sure ripped of the Indians when we had the chance. They deserve a break. However, the little guy in this drama is the fish and the rec. fisherman who has no big organized voice. I think we will fight like cr...

Re: Watch what you say online - expose on treaty negotiation

Thanks Jon. Nice to get a callout from you. I really enjoyed all your posts last year on how to get silvers in the Snoho. River. I learned a lot and have incorporated many of your ideas into how I will approach low-water fishing. I think of Trump and have to chuckle immediately. I see him kind of li...

Re: Watch what you say online - expose on treaty negotiation

People are frustrated by the lack of fish returning. It is frustrating. When odd things like this warm ocean water event and lack of rain happens we just have to roll with fate and be patient. We rec. fisherman can afford to be patient. People with their livelyhoods at stake have a hardship and shou...

Re: Help Re: Columbia

I want to go at that time too. I agree with Larry. It is going to be odd. The Sockeye are probably up to Brewster by then. Not a good bank area. I've got a boat and I'm targeting Sockeye but am told by locals that the run may be very small and closed to fishing. We've got a Pacific Ocean warm water ...

Re: No salmon fishing in PUget Sound?

Seattle is getting more and more populated. I'm from So. Ca. I saw the fisheries get fished and netted to almost nothing. If we want the Sound to be more than a shipping lane, the netting of all types will have to end. It is only a matter of time for one result or the other. I think we will whimp ou...

Hi, since the lower Columbia is closed where are you fishing now? Could be Drano or Wind I guess. Maybe the fish will move further up fairly soon. I like the Dalles Pool. Thanks

Re: Skykomish Reiter Ponds

Thanks Bent Rod. We were so focused on silvers and talking the hatchery area I thought coho was obvious. In fact I don't see how you could fish for Steel and not catch silvers...?? The greatest number of fish should be silvers. Oh well, I doubt there would be anybody up there checking. We get rain a...

Re: Salmon closures

The walleye feed heavily before winter. One of the best times. You can find this near the dams or pools below the dam on the East side. Then there is Potholes which is warmer water.
