Re: Westport Jetty Help!

I've had better success with smaller jigs for the rockfish. Usually about 1/4 ounce. 1/2 ounce max. Use smaller plastics-- 3 inches max--I like curl tail grubs in 2 inch or 3-inch sizes. Never had much luck with the bigger plastics. Use lighter colors. Basically, the black rockfish are fish-eaters. ...

Re: Forcing Yourself to Fish New Techniques

I have been having fantastic luck recently floating crappie tubes under a bobber, for surface feeding smallmouth.

No love on plastic worms, spoons, plugs etc. that I would otherwise have used for these bass.

Re: Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish will re-open to fishi

fishing has been good on Lake WA since it reopened back on June 24. Lots of smallies each day that I've gone out. Rock bass seem to be swarming too. Good to see that the WDFW has now announced that the lake will remain open thru Sept and October, instead of the scheduled closing that was in the rule...

Re: Salmon seasons rivers

just for clarification, the catch and release season on the Skoke is only for "gamefish". Salmon are not classified as "gamefish" but are instead classified as "foodfish". As such and per the regs (e.g., "salmon fishing is closed unless listed specifically as being open"), there is NO salmon season ...

Re: Oyster bay Bremerton

If you can find some boulder patches or old docks along the shoreline with barnacle growth, you should be able to get some sea perch (if you can get your bait past the shiner perch). Mud/sand covered bottoms should provide you with plenty of flounder and sand dabs (and sculpins). That's really about...

Re: Lake Cassidy (Snoho County) no longer in Special Regs?

Amongst the new rules adopted for 2016-2017 was the removal of the min size requirement for crappie for some lakes. Cassidy and other lakes were amongst these. You can look at the wdfw site for some of the explanations/comments when the rule change was being put into place.

Re: Looking for some good spots, new to WA

if you have a kayak (and even fishing from shore), Lake Washington is really all you need. Lots of great bass, yellow perch, other panfish, trout, crawdad, etc. opportunities. Use the same tactics you would use elsewhere around the country: look for perch outside the weedlines, look for structure/co...

Re: Carp on the west side?

I have incidentally caught very large carp in lake samm. Caught it on a Texas rig plastic worm of all things, while bass fishing. The bigger one was probably close to 30lbs. Both released.

Re: Clueless fishing rookie needs gear help...

I used trout gear for years in the salt, when fishing for perch, flounder, and other bottom fish. You really don't need long rods or high end gear for them--you don't need to cast out too far. Just look for the environment. The perch will hang out around rocky shorelines and pilings near shore. The ...

Re: That's gonna leave a mark!.... WDFW announces Lake clos

Still no update in the emergency rule section that Lk WA or Lk Sammamish are closed, says refer to the packet which says they are open. I dont fish these lakes this time of year, if I did I would take a dated screen shot and go fishing. A release is not official to my knowledge, the emergency rule ...

...Please give me the report locations and dates so I can remove them. We screen every report and admittedly sometimes one gets through, but our policy is to take any reports down that mention illegal fishing methods. I think in reality you'll find it's the exception and not the norm around here. I...

Re: Fishing etiquette question? Passing trollers/drifters

I'm not sure what boat etiquette/rules are in effect. But I do know that in lakes, it is "standard" practice to have someone row/motor their boat right where you are fishing from shore (when there are acres of empty lake available), or have someone play fetch with their dog in the water where you ar...

I have around 2 dozen of the charter specials and love them! I know it's not the intended use, but.... are those charter specials usable for casting a buzz bomb off a saltwater beach? Looking for a level wind reel (for buzz bombing) whose internal parts won't fall apart from rust and corrosion afte...

Re: Campbell Lake - Skagit County

I was talking to a guy at Dick's in Burlington last Sunday. He advised me not to eat fish from Cavanaugh because it was very poluted from all of the septic systems along the shoreline. Don't know if that's true but I did see a boat trolling along there Sunday afternoon. hmm... I wonder if corn will...
