Re: Best Crab Pots

Whats a good price for the square fold up traps? Been looking at the local sports stores... 50-60 bucks? ~$20 for the pot and an additional $15-20 for float and rope. (All bought separately) To buy the whole thing set up for you will probably be about $50. If you go that route though try to find on...

Re: How old are your waders?

I got mine fall of 2009. Cabala's GII stocking foot. Treated 4 pinholes along the inner seam of the thighs two years ago with Aquaseal, but otherwise still working well. Just replaced my boots last Christmas (also Cabela's).

Re: Need advice re: Egg Loops

Can you secure yarn with a snell knot? I looked at your pic and Im not sure I understand where the yarn would go. A snell knot and an egg loop will have a similar place to attach yarn where the leader from the knot (tied around the shank of the hook) passes through the eye of the hook. By pulling a...

Re: Need advice re: Egg Loops

Egg loop knots are always incorporated as part of the leader. It's typical to make your leader on the longer side and then cut it down to your desired length on the water. I usually make mine 3'-4' long and adjust accordingly. From your description, it sounds like you'd rather have yarnie type flies...

Re: Pros and Cons of OverPowering a Boat

Those Highlakers are a bit on the heavy side being fiberglass, right? However, I agree that a properly setup 15-20hp outboard shouldn't have a problem getting it up on plane. Aside from the prop pitch, I've always liked the added performance a hydrofoil fun adds. My brother added a doel-fin to his 1...

Re: Fish Finder troubleshooting

Good info in that thread Tom referenced. Probably will answer your questions. Also, details on where you're testing this would help too. i.e. fresh water, salt water, depth, fish species expected to be around, etc. I found that in fresh water lakes that are less than 20 feet then I usually don't see...

I don't think anyone has mentioned Flowing Lake in Snohomish County either. It looks like it's got a nice little county run campground.

Re: Do I need to exchange my battery?

Yes, take it back. G-man provides some great advice. You have some options to choose from, but the cheapest will be a lead wet cell group 24 deep cycle "RV/Marine" battery. Specs will vary. You'll also want a good charger and, if you go with a lead wet cell, learn about % discharge/battery maintenan...

Re: Active forum topics button?

When ON the forum on a phone, there's a forum specific menu at the top labeled MENU. MENU > Advanced Search > Active Topics. Great! Thanks. I am getting used to the new website, and like it well enough on the desktop, but can't say I'm really liking the phone format. It seems very clunky trying to ...

Re: Metal detecting

You're more than welcome. I can't say I'm an expert, but have learned quite a bit since I got into it. I'm less knowledgeable of the saltwater machines, but there is a ton of info and some very helpful people on the Friendly Metal Detecting Forum site that I linked earlier in this thread. Of course,...

Re: Metal detecting

Unfortunately there are no general rules. Regulations vary between federal, state, county, and city lands and those are not always crystal clear. I find that most of the time I don't overthink it and just go out and have fun. I've never been asked to stop, but do educate myself on the rules wherever...

Re: Metal detecting

Metal detecting sounds like a fun hobby - something I've always thought about doing. My dad in SD metal detects old abandoned farms (with permission) he has found a lot of interesting stuff. Have any of you ever found a meteorite? What model would you suggest for a mid-range detector? For a mid-ran...

Re: Mukilteo boat ramp

May 14th for the docks, the ramps are in the water year round. It's a great launch if you do it right. Not a launch for a single person. It takes one in the boat and one in the rig. Back in fire it up and go. Same for picking passengers. Pull in to the shore or dock and jump and go. Not a launch fo...

Pine Lake fishing pier up on the Sammamish Plateau. Will be crowded, but the lake opens next weekend for trout and (last Saturday of April) for trout and you'll be all but guaranteed to catch fish.
