Re: Rod/Reel for Salmon Fishing on WA Rivers

One thing to consider that you may not have yet is where you will be fishing. While the suggestions your are getting are fantastic, I can guaranty that at some bank fishing spots on the Snohomish you will not want anything to do with a 9 foot rod. Many great spots to fish are right under over-hangin...

Re: Baker lake sockeye

Remember the trap counts should be half the total run. Tribes take their estimated half. So downgraded numbers would mean 18,500 in the trap, not 37k.

What I do when I want to find out how a lake fishes a particular month is check the reports here. Back break it down by body of water, month, species. Gives me a heads up and at times some ideas to try.

Tasty is kokanee
Not so tasty is trout.

Lies, Lies, and more lies! :) You just need to get the right trout! Kokanee is tasty though.

Off of the top of my head.... unfortunately no. Ebey slough... maybe sea run cuts? Don't know if it's open for them there though, you would want to check.

Re: Lake Stevens Alum Treatments

I am not one who can say whether or not the current struggles on the lake for fisherman is related to the alum treatments and any die off that may have happened, if this is a 1 year issue that since they changed treatment and planting dates will correct itself next year, if it will be an ongoing iss...

Re: Summit Lake Blue-green algae

Wow, usually don't see algae problems this early in the year. Something funky must be going on with the lake. Typically, the algae doesn't cause issues for the fish, it just makes it that the lake is unsafe to fish because you really don't want to touch the water or the fish and accidently rub your ...

Re: Lone Lake (Whidbey Island) Brown Bullhead Catfish?

I've not seen any catfish in Cranberry, just rainbows, browns, largemouth, perch, and even though it's not listed in the WDFW site, pumpkinseeds. If you bring along a bobber and worms, you won't get skunked, little perch and sunfish will bite all day long. Or float power eggs 3 - 4 feet off bottom t...

Re: Lone Lake (Whidbey Island) Brown Bullhead Catfish?

I don't know about the catfish. I haven't run into a case where the WDFW says a species is there and actually isn't yet, so I would assume this is correct. Lone Lake is a terrible mess though right now. Massive trout die off last year, and a big grass carp problem they are trying to rid themselves o...

Replying to a reply on a report

A few times I have run into a situation where I make a comment on a report, someone replies to it, and I try to reply back but my reply does not take.

If you wanted to go a little more out of your way, Cascade lake on orcas island up in the San Juan would be great as well. I just moved here and posted a report this evening (hopefully it will be up soon). It's absolutely gorgeous and you would be staying at Moran state park. Keep in mind it's elec...

Cranberry Lake in Deception Pass State park. Grandy Lake up Hwy 20. Diablo (Colonial Creek Campground) if you want real a complete alpine feel (prettiest spot in the state imo) but fishing can be hot or not.

Re: Eagle Claw Featherlight Kokanee/Casting rods are here!

There aren't many new, good, low budget level wind reels out there to pair with these rods. Tica makes a purpose built kokanee reel that starts at around $85 and Diawa makes a line counter reel in the $70 range. However, there are great used reels that can be had for a song that work perfectly with...
