Re: 2016 Pike Tally

I've found that using a net works better than just "touching the leader"....ha, Just kidding. Its nice to find those bigger ones. They really add to the excitement of pike fishing.

Re: 2016 Pike Tally

Had a wonderful "Memorial" pike weekend with son and grandsons in the land that respects pike--CDA, Idaho. I picked up 8 bringing my year's total to 9. The best was 31"x9lbs. A nice fighter. One 9 yr.old grandson got his best ever 5 lb pike. Then next grandson tied into a toad. Stripped line several...

Re: East side tiger tournament, Spring 2016???

Nice "catch" on the Mania post, Buddy. Thanks.
Muskyhunter--yes, we appreciate the Tiger support from those and other biologists from WDFW. Without that the tiger program might die an easy death from the bad vibes from other fishermen.

Re: East side tiger tournament, Spring 2016???

Mountain Muskies is collaborating with NW TIGER PAC to pay for and encourage the WDFW to instruct us as to their specifications for an ample number of signs for all Tiger lakes. There is a Tiger muskie info sign at the entrance to the launch at Silver Lake but none at the docking area board where pe...

Re: East side tiger tournament, Spring 2016???

We had a very nice little tournament. 10 boats, 20 fishermen. Largest was 38 1/2" (190 bucks!). Seven fish over 30" and a couple under. Nice warm day in the 70s and moderate wind. One 39 1/2" tiger was left on the bank by a benevolent bass fisherman. So that in a way was the big fish of the day........

Re: 2016 Pike Tally

Well, finally got the pikeometer started yesterday for 2016. Got a 29 inch x 5 1/2 lb. nice politically incorrect pike out of the' Columbia near Kettle Falls. It was great--pulling line all over. Like Babe Winkleman says "there ain't nuttin like big pike fishing, nuttin like it!".

Re: Kettle Falls area boat launches.

The Kettle Falls launch is the place to use now. Marcus is high and dry. Be careful going north from K.F. Very shallow half buried rocky bars just north of the double bridges and shallow gravel bars out from singer's bay half way up to Marcus. I grounded on one last spring in the middle of the lake ...

Re: Pike gillnetting Lake Roosevelt

That "bottleneck at Kettle Falls" referred to in the article is a little over a quarter mile wide and 130+ feet deep. That will take quite a net in that strong current to pinch off the pike.....and kokanee, rainbows, bass, walleye, sturgeon.... Ah, yes, I wonder if they will report how many of those...

Re: Northern Pike Summary Report 2015 University of Idaho

Interesting that the big pike swallowed the little pike backwards. He obviously knew that the little pike had no dorsal fin to puncture his gullet. Nearly all of the pike I have cleaned from the chain lakes over the past 20 years have had perch in them. Perch's fins bother them not. I remember one t...

Re: Ice Reports 2015-2016

I fished Curlew yesterday....kinda. 2 inches of partially frozen mush over 1 to 1.5 inches of hard ice. We Had to use ropes and hang onto or close to dock at state park and trestle up north. The snow and mush is insulating against much ice accumulation. Got skunked on muskies and perch to boot.

Those are beautiful Pike, Mark. I should have gone to the big lake instead of the chain lake nurseries. Love those horizontal Holds!
