Re: Clueless fishing rookie needs gear help...
I used trout gear for years in the salt, when fishing for perch, flounder, and other bottom fish. You really don't need long rods or high end gear for them--you don't need to cast out too far. Just look for the environment. The perch will hang out around rocky shorelines and pilings near shore. The ...

Re: That's gonna leave a mark!.... WDFW announces Lake clos
Still no update in the emergency rule section that Lk WA or Lk Sammamish are closed, says refer to the packet which says they are open. I dont fish these lakes this time of year, if I did I would take a dated screen shot and go fishing. A release is not official to my knowledge, the emergency rule ...

...Please give me the report locations and dates so I can remove them. We screen every report and admittedly sometimes one gets through, but our policy is to take any reports down that mention illegal fishing methods. I think in reality you'll find it's the exception and not the norm around here. I...

Re: Fishing etiquette question? Passing trollers/drifters
I'm not sure what boat etiquette/rules are in effect. But I do know that in lakes, it is "standard" practice to have someone row/motor their boat right where you are fishing from shore (when there are acres of empty lake available), or have someone play fetch with their dog in the water where you ar...

Re: Looking for a lever drag level wind reel
I have around 2 dozen of the charter specials and love them! I know it's not the intended use, but.... are those charter specials usable for casting a buzz bomb off a saltwater beach? Looking for a level wind reel (for buzz bombing) whose internal parts won't fall apart from rust and corrosion afte...

I was talking to a guy at Dick's in Burlington last Sunday. He advised me not to eat fish from Cavanaugh because it was very poluted from all of the septic systems along the shoreline. Don't know if that's true but I did see a boat trolling along there Sunday afternoon. hmm... I wonder if corn will...

Re: winter lake washington perch
Thanks G-man. That's exactly the info I needed. I would have liked to find some perch in the shallower east channel area, but it looks from your post that the numbers will not be there. Good thing that I found the other (deeper) location where they seem to be hanging out right now--it's just a littl...

winter lake washington perch
Any winter lake wa perch fisherman out there? So, I went with a friend this past weekend, and found some in deep water over 80+ feet deep along the Seattle shoreline. Are they always that deep this time of year? Looking at the nautical topographic map, there are sections under and south of the East ...

Re: Bullhead Catfish Baits
Regular garden worms always worked best for me. when the heavy rains come in the spring, you can fill a coffee can of them just by picking them up off the sidewalk in the morning. Be sure to hurry up or the birds will get them first. I like to impale 2-3 worms onto a single hook. You basically get a...

Re: Low profile baitcasting reel
Shad, when you say cranking to non cranking help me understand the difference. I understood the gear ratio and thought it would be better for fighting large Kings as I read a lot about the lower ratio giving you more fighting power, but maybe that is not true in all cases. I am looking at this bein...

I am waiting for it to be delivered. I got off ebay and it is a Shimano Curado Cu201 B5 which looks to be in excellent condition. I have read quite a bit about upgrading the drags with Carbontex carbon fiber washers. Any thoughts on that. I am looking forward to its arrival just after Christmas. Th...

it's Marine Area 10 at Chico Creek. Single-point barbless hooks required (no trebles) in MA 10. Bait and scent OK. Limit of 2 chums for retention. Also per the regs: River Mouth Closures in Areas 10 and 12 – At the mouth of Dewatto, Dosewallips, Duckabush, Hamma Hamma and Skokomish rivers (see page ...

Re: Green river chum
try a strip of squid 1-1.5 inches long or shorter, cured in Fire Cure. Tip your jig with it. The squid will be a bright cerise when cured. You get the mix of squid scent, krill scent, and sulfite, plus the durability of squid, all in one. The humpies loved it. Might be good for chum, if your prawns ...

Re: Squidding starting?
I picked up my limit in about 1.5 hours in Seattle a few nights ago. No one else at the dock. Action was fast and furious at times. No lights (other than the dim lamp-posts on the dock). So, don't give up and go home if there is nobody around with a light set-up--the squid will come around, and they...

I was in the area last Sunday (not fishing, but going to a pumpkin patch).
Not a soul fishing in the river. Saw a few nets near the mouth.
Whether or not there were coho in the river, I don't know.

All salmon have worms (even the ones sold in stores). Should have PM'ed me. I would have picked up the fish at your house. I've been craving for some grilled coho.

Re: Baitcaster reel under $80.00 recommendation
I have a Pflueger Trion that I bought maybe 10 years ago for $80 new on Ebay. Its treated me well. Price has gone down over the years. You can probably find some for about $35 new on Ebay. Be warned though that you may have a hard time finding service if you run into problems with the reel. But at $...
