Re: Skykomish chinook

Skykomish kings are notorious for being tough to bank anglers. This is mainly a drift boat fishery that said a good bet would be fishing with eggs either plunking, free drifting or float fishing. Boaters do well with flatfish or qwikfish. I know not fly gear but this is what will be used. Remember s...

Re: River salmon season

We got a coho season last year on the skykomish/wallace. Hoping this year year is the same as the cascade is a far drive up north for me.

Re: WDFW District 5, March 1, 2018 opening day prospects

I fished quincy lake on the 3rd and while the fishing was slower then in the past I managed to get 4 from 7am-11am. Early in the morning I kept getting nibbles but the fish were not commiting to it. Must of had at least a dozen nibbles without a hookup. I caught 1 carryoever at about 17in and 3 smal...

Re: Un-named slough/channel on the Snohomish, just North of 522?

Hahaha [woot] I see what you tried to do there. :-" Truly I do. I'm actually perfectly fine in not fishing tidal waters. If I wanted to hook into 30 plus fish I know plenty of lakes that are easy game for that. I refuse to fish rivers just for pleasure of holding and releasing fish especially when t...

Re: Un-named slough/channel on the Snohomish, just North of 522?

Jon is right. The sloughs do take time to learn as it does have plenty of nuisances. I'm one of those that don't have that kind of time. I work a lot and have a family that usually plans my time off for me lol. If I want to go fishing nowadays I usually have to plan a week or 2 in advance. If I am l...

Re: Steelhead Hook regulations

Barbless hooks are rarely required on any western Washington river or stream (though there is a few exceptions) skykomish doesn't require Barbless hooks, and during certain periods of the season 2 hooks is allowed (usually when the salmon are not running) When allowed I usually run a float and jig s...

Re: Steelhead river levels

Fishing for steelhead takes patience and lots of it especially in the skykomish. Being new to it consider yourself lucky to hook up on your first season and even luckier on your first visit. My opinion is don't wait for the right conditions and just get out and fish. Now if you have a lot of spare t...

Re: Rod question

I'm with Jonb on this one. It all depends on your technique. To be clear any rod will work under many conditions but when you get down to specific technique choosing the right rod can be key to improving your technique which in return improves your catch rate. If float fishing I use longer rods like...

Re: Lake Washington Cutthroat

:pr: It isn't the average joe putting the hurt on the run by taking 5 fish per day but the guides working it with 6 clients, twice a day. When they put 6, plug cut herring in the water, they create an artificial school of crippled bait fish that no predator can refuse. Even if they only catch 2 fish...

Yea I gave up also. Not so much because of lack of numbers I was getting but decided to target other species. I ended up at whatcom creek to stock up on chum eggs to stockpile my bait. It is now getting good by the way!!

No not upset at all. I was just reiterating that I never said it's all about salmon. Everyone is entitled to their opinions on anything including fishing proposals. That is why they are proposals because they want to hear different opinions from ppl like us. It seems to me that you are the one getti...

Skykomish/Wallace

Has anyone been fishing the upper stretches of the skykomish/Wallace? If so is it still producing? I am debating on where to go on Wednesday as I have a day off. I would rather be chasing coho then chum if it's still producing. You can pm me if you like. Also if anyone wants a fishing partner on Wed...

Re: Rainbow or steelhead?

My first impression is a resident bow or maybe a smolt escapee that decided to stay in the river. Hard to say, really. It is hard to say but looks a lot more like a steelhead. What makes me think that is the silvery shine on it. Steelhead get that chrome color to better suit them for life in the oc...

Re: Rainbow or steelhead?

It's a rainbow and to be more specific a steelhead. Steelhead are rainbows just the searun version of a rainbow. Wdfw considers steelhead as searun rainbows 20" or greater. That fish has the look of a searun trout especially if caught in a creek. It is rare to see resident rainbows in creeks over 14...

Re: rules proposal: no limit on pan fish

My comments for salmon are not based on lakes but rather rivers and streams and never did I say it's all about the salmon. Example the columbia river which is overpopulated by panfish. I'm aware of the all the obstacles salmon face nowadays especially overfishing and pollution. But rather my comment...

Re: rules proposal: no limit on pan fish

I believe that a limit should be in place - not for size (like most lakes) but instead for numbers. Here's why; Each summer I make a trip to SD to visit family and FISH, FISH and then FISH some more. 30 years of fishing SD has given me great memories of numerous smallmouth, largemouth, white bass, ...
