Re: Home brewers out there??
Sounds like you are stepping up quickly. I have found that Larry's Homebrew (in Kent) has the best prices by far for sacks of grain, when you go that way. They do cutting and welding if you need any fab work done as well, unless you know someone else that does stainless steel welding. It is a bit of...

Re: Home brewers out there??
I have been brewing for 20+ years, but is has been over a year with the opening of my lab I have been short on time. This is the perfect season for standing around a propane burner in the rain. The kits or extract is a great way to start, then when you want to get total control and reduce costs you ...

Re: Salmon for fertilizer? or just eggs?
"human consumption" does not leave anything up to interpretation, that is humans consuming it. If you use it for fertilizer the microbes are consuming it (not humans) making the nutrients available for the plants to consume. Just because some of the atoms that used to be part of the fish may end up ...

Re: November 9-10. Dont Miss Out!
That was quick, guess I missed it. Sent a PM, but was too slow. Any recommendations on locations for bank fishing the Hump? Thanks, Cancellation and I am in (their loss is my gain), looking forward to catching some of those nice Coho since I have been too busy at work to get out but the rivers here ...

Re: headed to the wallace tomorrow morning (friday)
I just had one good bobber down, a little too much slack in the line for a good set so it just got some free eggs. They are there if you know what you are doing, unlike me! the guys right at the gate caught some on eggs, but everyone else was using jig under float or corky and yarn.

Jonb,
Where were you at yesterday, I must have walked past you? I was there from about 10-1 and walked down from the hatchery to the rope swing hole.

Is it worth the drive from Seattle? Want to catch some late fall kings and need an idea of whats going on up there. Are there still chrome left? What section of the river? Condition of the fish? Hows the water clarity? Do I need to floss or can I fish Eggs? If so, should I float or drift them? Anyt...

Re: headed to the wallace tomorrow morning (friday)
I hit the Wallace today for a quick scouting and a couple hours of fishing as it was my first time there. The river is looking good, there are a few rollers and several people had nice bright fish and a few with a light blush. I could not get them to take my (store bought) eggs. I walked down from t...

Thanks again for the informative video. I have picked up some good tips from this one and previous posts, now I just need some time to test them out.

Re: Fish scales close up
Anything biological has to be dried for the electron microscope as it is under vacuum, so that can be tricky getting things preserved correctly. Once I can get out fishing again, too much working, I will see if I can get any more interesting images. Since I do not need liquid nitrogen for my detecto...

Re: Public rights on rivers in EVERY state
Well said Nate. These laws are "old and antiquated" because they have many years of legal precedence and have beaten many arguments against them it does not make them any less valid, probably the opposite. I wish you had stuck around a few more minutes before heading up river, being better informed ...

Check Anglers Choice on Ballinger by the Thriftway, they always have had frozen when I have been there. I also saw it at the Thriftway, but they just had a couple packages. Further north Teds on 99 always has a good selection of baits. There is/was a bait shop at the Edmonds marina, although I have ...

You are making a good case, I saw the 67,000+ record over the dam the other day. Very tempting, I am trying to work it in the schedule if I can.
Where is the closest place to get a room, or is it just as easy to drive down early from Seattle? It seem pretty desolate for camping.

Re: Public rights on rivers in EVERY state
Nate, Nice job digging this up. It seems like WDFW should have known this and told me so when I reported the above incident to them. They are well aware of "Mr. bleep" (the road is named after him so it is not too much a secret what his name is) on the Samish. While he did not pull out the gun he di...

It does not quite fit in the tackle box, but it sure makes normal most things look way more interesting. I will clean things up better next time to give a cleaner image. I might have to start looking at other items from fish that look interesting. I have gotten some good image of microbes in the past.

Fish scales close up
I thought these images might be interesting. When I was done fishing out of Ilwaco the biologist came over to take a scale sample and a fin piece from the chinook I caught, unfortunately I was dealing with something else, but my fishing mates said she was collecting the scale because they could look...

My name is Omar Simon, I live in Shoreline and am 39 years old.. I am a chemist and I have my own testing laboratory, Simon Forensic LLC, in Shoreline. I mainly analyze failures and manufacturing defects/issues, everything looks pretty cool under an electron microscope. My fishing bug was reawakened...
