Re: Lake Whatcom + Lake Samish

Here's the Bellingham Herald reporters' email addresses and phone numbers John Stark: [email protected], 360-715-2274 Ralph Schwartz: [email protected], 360-715-2289 I'd shoot them some information myself, but I work at a newspaper myself and there could be some confl...

I'd like to get on Tapps someday — it was good ol' Lake Whatcom, though.

Re: Lake Whatcom + Lake Samish

I drove by Lake Whatcom this afternoon to check out the damage. It looked like the only boats on the lake were bass boats from the tournament (probably due to the rain). There was an inspection station set up with four people manning it. They all looked like Biology students or something haha. They ...

Re: Lake Whatcom + Lake Samish

UPDATE: I just got off the phone with county councilwoman Barbara Brenner and she said they will not enforce the Lake Samish inspections this year. She is VERY much on our side on the whole issue, calling the inspections a "money grab." She'd rather go with self inspections and education on invasive...

Re: Boat/Battery Questions

4. I'd get a 50 amp for that at least. You might be able to do 60 amp, too, but check the trolling motor's installation guide because it will list the type of circuit breaker you need.

Re: Lake Whatcom + Lake Samish

It's not gated up. I have a feeling they'll just be handing out warnings if there are no notices up at Samish by then. I have a feeling they'll have a Wildlife officer out at the launch anyway, though.

Re: Lake Whatcom + Lake Samish

Thanks for the email Mike, I sent them a message. I went out to Lake Samish today to fish a few hours and there were more boats on the lake than I've seen this year (probably the sun). No one seems to know that you'll need to get your boat inspected starting Saturday and there are no signs indicatin...

Re: Lake Whatcom + Lake Samish

It's bad news but there hasn't really been any action taken from many boaters in the county to counteract it minus a few individuals who have made their voices heard at county council meetings. As fishermen, we should probably organize against this new ordinance somehow. Any ideas?

Lake Whatcom + Lake Samish

We haven't discussed this on here at all (there are countless posts on wafish.com about it but the dialogue tends to be more sane around these parts). For those that don't know, Lake Whatcom and now Lake Samish will require an inspection for invasive species (EDITED) to launch starting on opening da...

Re: Woo Hoo.... Just bought a new to me boat

Congrats on the new boat. That boater's course is a pain in the ass ... I did the 75-question take-home version and most of those questions are not applicable at all for me. Have fun haha.

Re: New Member - Bass Newbie

Hey Ben,

Welcome to the website, we have a lot of great bass lakes in Washington to choose from. If you ever make it up to Whatcom County, I'll take you out on some of the great lakes up here. Good luck!

Re: Looking for a boat

A 50 HP on an aluminum will take you between 35-40 MPH. I have a 60 on my 17.5 foot boat and it gets up to just over 40 MPH. Cabela's is a Lowe dealer and there's a Tracker dealer in Kennewick (Traveland RV Center). There are a few good looking rigs on Craigslist right now. I'd check out this 2000 N...

Re: Looking for a boat

There are Tracker, Lowe and Crestliner dealers in Washington. I'd go Lowe and Crestliner over Tracker (wider beams). I think the closest G3 dealer is in northern Oregon.

Re: Looking for a boat

What's your budget like? Aluminum will run cheaper. With a 50 HP motor you are looking at somewhere around $14,000- $15,000 out the door (tax, licensing, dealer freight and prep) for a basic 16-foot bass boat.

Using that method, you could also try umbrella rigging up a few of them. Just imagine the size of the bass you'd eventually catch after hundreds of hours nothing!

Better start throwing some bigger swim baits!
