Re: Breaking news: OPEN SEASON on Atlantic Salmon - is this real!?!?

I will happen to be up in the San Juans this weekend, will see if I can help out the local salmon by salmon by catching a few of those. Anyone have ideas on what to use or depths? Are these more like kings , silvers, or ?? Should at least be good for smoking. This is a good lesson that we should not...

Re: Aluminum Boat - Foam Floatation - Cleaning - Corrosion

First you need to find out how the water is getting into the foam. Is there a leak around a seam, fish box or another location? Is the foam sealed in or just open to the bilge (which in my opinion would be a major deign flaw)? I would also question manufacturer, since they fixed it the first time ma...

Re: Riffe Lake License requirements - Do you need Columbia Endorsement?

Does not look like the way I read the regs, Mayfield and Scanewa do require CR and catch card because there are migrating salmon there, put there by WDFW as they are trapped at barrier dam. Riffe has no such requirement as the salmonoids there are landlocked. See Westside lakes special rules, looks ...

Re: Galvanic Corrosion

Kodacacher, Thanks for the update, just heard back from one of my ABYC contacts (was on vacation) and he confirmed that those outdrives have notoriously bad paint jobs. They just do not take all the care and necessary steps to coat aluminum. Follows Bodofish's advice and should be better than new. G...

Re: Where are the Baker Lake Sockeye?

I thought the 47K was the amount of fish actually returning to Baker. With less than 100 per fish that last couple days looking poor (probably the delay from the last days they were netted), either way. Still struggle to understand how the commercials and/or tribes are allowed 50% of estimated runs ...

Re: Galvanic Corrosion

Make sure the surface is clean underneath the anodes or they will not make proper contact, limiting effectiveness. Also if there is any white scale build up wire brush it off to expose clean metal, the oxides are not very conductive. Probably not an issue since you replaced the anodes a year ago, bu...

Re: Galvanic Corrosion

I would guess that stray current, not galvanic corrosion (which is typically a connection between dissimilar metals) is the root cause, but it is hard to tell exactly from the picture. I could not get a good look from the photo. The only way to test for that would be with the boat in the water and a...

Re: Looking for a guide

There are a few that are associated with this site, click on Home, Service, then Guides. Will give you a list for various locations so they can fill you in on details of what they will be fishing for around that date. That would be a good place to start.

Re: Planning A Salmon Trip

Depending on your timing the Snohomish/Skykomish may provide better options, lots of good bank access and it is not quite as large of a river as Skagit (think there are limited options on Skagit this year as well). Also there is the Samish, more like a big creek late August and Sept for Kings, comba...

Re: Trailer ??

Was no ignoring you Larry, I did refill with oil and try to run. Problem is now it will not even start, messed around a little, but I found a solution, a different boat. Picked up a 1978 Glasply, hopefully it will treat me better. I am sure I will need some advice getting this all set up so I apprec...

Re: Trailer ??

New flapper and rubber tube (riser bellows) that go from riser to exhaust hose ordered, should be here next week. Might try running with old rubber piece (taped up to prevent exhaust or water leaks) on there with hose connected to get it warmed up and dried out. Once I have the new parts I may try b...

Re: Trailer ??

Thanks for all the tips and advice, nice to hear a similar story Larry (minus any good times in the water), and eternal optimism from Bodo! Drained out all the old oil, plugs were not too bad since they were new last fall, but did get some soot on them and looked like some water in the cylinders. So...

Re: Trailer ??

Yes water in the oil, got about an extra quart after only a few cranks according to the dip stick. I did not notice any water getting in running with the hose and I let that run enough to feel warm water coming out the exhaust side. Will be draining out everything this evening. Thought either cracke...

Re: Trailer ??

Thought the back pressure might have been the issue, but the large amount of water in oil and bilge seemed very concerning. I will dig a little more and at least get the watery oil out of there. Still turns over so no hydrolock yet. If I can at least ID the main issues it will help at least the next...

Re: Trailer ??

Yes it is an I/O (mercruiser 140), I had already replaced exhaust bellows but could be a flapper valve (if this has one of those). The bellows on the linkage connection is starting to look old, but did not think that would let water in engine. Bilge quickly filling up could be another issue, I have ...

Re: Trailer ??

Thanks for all the input, but now trailer no longer necessary. Tried to take the boat out for first sea trial in lk. Wa, but motor would not start (started fine on hose at home), then the bilge pump kicked on and the boat was taking on a massive amount of water so never made it off the dock. Pulled ...

Re: Trailer ??

Thanks for the additional input Bodo, luckily there does not appear to be dents yet as there is a rib running along the edge of the rollers giving extra support. Does sound like a bunk trailer with brakes (as I will be pushing 3000#'s loaded including trailer or is that not included in load?) is in ...
