Huh? The scheme I was looking at had one going one way and two going the other. But now I see another schematic that has 3 in series each way Or maybe one is the AC booster and the other is the RC booster. I dunno.

Re: Propeller advice

I dont tend to think of 4 blades just because the majority of my experience is with two stroke outboards. Supposedly they are somewhat less efficient too. But your larger, heavier, inboard/outboard 4 stroke is exactly where a 4 blade prop could excel, giving you a faster launch to planing speed and ...

A good prop shop would be able to ID your prop, repair it, and give you solid recommendations for your specific application. [wink]
Yup, thats a great reason to spend locally instead of trying to save a buck and order everything on amazon. (guilty)

Re: Downrigger and Line/Lure Depth

Having never used one, 2 aspects of water temp measurement intrigue me. 1. These things seem like great learning tools. I'm curious how wide the "fishy" band is. I'm looking for 50-60 degrees for most species.... How wide is that area in 50 fow? Late summer, early summer change that? How much variat...

Re: Downrigger and Line/Lure Depth

Last time I went to merwin, I shouldn't have ever left the launch! Spending most of the day searching the rest of the lake, we put gear back in just outside of the launch (speelai) and caught most of our fish. I think some should be starting to spawn by now at merwin though. Only been there a couple...

Re: Propeller advice

Its difficult to make prop changes when the only one you have to test with is damaged. To calculate prop pitch or make any other prop changes with an online prop pitch calculator, you must have a decent prop, an accurate top speed measurement and a tachometer to measure the rpm of the engine at top ...

Re: Downrigger and Line/Lure Depth

Long setbacks are certainly beneficial sometimes. The deeper your fishing, the less this seems to matter. Kinda have to choose a balance point between the efficiency of a short setback and the stealthiness of a long setback. Ive been told that the rule of 100 works pretty well. (50ft down, 50 feet b...

I dont think your overthinking this, but the complexity here would make it very difficult to put in an easy reference chart.

Re: Downrigger and Line/Lure Depth

I troll with a wide variety of dodgers and terminal tackle in shallow lakes.... A lot. Many of my 4 inch oval dodgers with a similar looking front and back lip actually dive about 10 feet when pulled at those speeds. I have checked this by trolling over a 12ft deep area without bottoming, then later...

I know Ive brought this up in person with Aaron, started threads on the same topic etc... Not trying to be rude here! Far from it, just trying to help, but... The search feature is terrible to use! I agree with most everything Larry posted last month. It is not intuitive to use this site to find lak...

Re: Broke off piece of lower unit on motor

I hear you on the tach. My first prop change without a tach and gps made me go slower. Guess and check gets expensive. Ive got a few options for portable tachs, but really wish I had a permanent one. Chris's boat doesn't have one either, I dont think. If you're not harmonically in tune to the sound ...

Re: Broke off piece of lower unit on motor

Yep definitely need Marine / Suzuki aluminum primer and paint for touch up. saltwater water is tough on exposed aluminum. Aluminum is difficult to get paint to stick to, and requires specific paint supplies. Glad to hear that it was just trim/ prop ventilation. Before buying a spare prop, let's talk...

Re: Broke off piece of lower unit on motor

Googled the suzuki 40hp original prop info, rseas was is correct, you should have a pressed in rubber hub if the prop is original. Press-in hub # : 58120-88L00. -Some aftermarket props have no replaceable hub though! Checking the prop hub by hand, out of the water, for signs of a spinning hub might ...

Re: question about livescope power use

I'll bet my first guesses are pretty close. (as far as power draw, available run time etc) If you do have the 50 amp charging system, I would think that at high speed when all batteries are switched together that the aux batteries could be recharging at a good 30 amps. Run that main motor at speed f...

Re: question about livescope power use

A small kicker at low speed will not do much charging btw, only a few amps. The main motor, if its wired to charge all three batteries, might give priority to the main starting battery, then charge the aux batts, depends on how it's wired. The main motor at high speed will likely charge at anywhere ...

Re: question about livescope power use

Looks like the livescope uses 21 watts typically and 58 max. If you have 3 batteries, I'll assume one is main and the other 2 are auxiliary? So, a couple of fairly healthy marine batteries are likely around 200 amp hours together. (only use 80% before recharging/ 160 ah usable) a couple scotty downr...

Re: First time fly fishing, Montana

Not sure if it will help, but the town of Darby, near Hamilton had some of the best (fly) fishing Ive ever experienced. My family settled that area, and is all over in the town museum. Blodgett Canyon was named after my great great uncle, Maxwell Blodgett. The population of Darby is unchanged.... ar...

Ive dropped 5 pots in Lake Washington a few times. Caught nothing but sculpin and bullfrog tadpoles. Ive soaked pots near the mouth of mercer slough, around the cedar river mouth, various spots along the east channel and near lake union.... all skunked. Ive trapped Sammamish twice with the same resu...

I can tell that the report is from a sponsor right away and understand that many of these reports come from very skilled fisherman wh...
