Re: Pixie spoons for salmon

The best way to fish them is a stop and go retrieve. Crank a few times then stop and let it flutter, crank, repeat. The fish will pick it up while it's dropping to flutter and the next time you go to reel it will be "fish on"

Re: Pixie spoons for salmon

They are a great CASTING spoon. Keep that in mind. Nice and heavy so you can huck them a country mile but not very practical in shallow slow moving water. A moderate current to facilitate their flutter, or deeper waters is where they shine. I have thrown them from shore in the past in the Brewster a...

Can't keep the damn things off the line in the salt. lol I don't think the tide makes a bit of difference.

Re: Skagit river pinks

There are fish in there now and will be PLENTY by august 1st.

Already seeing jumpers all over inside puget sound. The straits are loaded.

A friend of mine working with the Upper Skagit tribe already saw 2 pinks in a test net last week in the river above Wooley.

Re: San Juan Kings

In that immediate area is Secret harbor. You troll from Broughton Pt to Cypress Head. Don't go inside the bay where the net pens are, there is a cable crossing in the area that you can/will get hung up on if you get in too tight. Search Secret Harbor fishing in google, John Martini's of Johns Sporti...

Re: anybody seeing pinks yet?

I fished the Bellingham Derby in the Islands this weekend and the pinks are coming in strong. Lots inside Rosario but as you got closer and closer to Juan De Fuca the thicker they got. In places out on the banks we couldn't keep our gear in the water 5 seconds without catching one. If you want them ...

Re: Tulalip bubble

For a boat of that size why not launch in the Tulalip Marina? The launch is no good at low tide either, but much better option than Ebey. If you fish early and head back to the launch before 1pm you should be fine with either choice. As stated above when exiting Ebey Slough stay far right and hug th...

Re: Tulalip bubble

Word to the wise you CANNOT navigate the estuary/Ebey Slough at a low tide in anything less than a very small skiff or jet sled. Anything less than a +1 tide and you will be stuck. I have gone high and dry in a 20 foot wooldridge through there once running our work sled on a 0 or slightly negative t...

Re: Trolling Rod / Reel

I run Fetha Styx downrigger series rods in 10'6" they are superb. Carbon fiber butt section so no damage from the DR rod holder. Good and light in the tip but strong enough backbone to handle a halibut. I have them paired with the Shimano Charter Special lever drag reels. I like lever reels in the d...

Re: Skagit River Sockeye

I'm right there with you, Mike. I would like to go poke around, but am up to my ears trying to get projects done before the July 10th B-ham Chinook Derby then the very short July 16th A9 bloodbath.

Hopefully we see you up at the lake again in late, July.

Cheers.

Yep, as others stated.... don't

There is NO water, and no Chinook fishery.

Very dire times, indeed.

Re: End to mass marking of Salmon

The biggest travesty of all is that $477k is chump change.

Not a drop in the bucket compared to what is thrown in the trash annually by DOT. That number starts with a B and ends with a illions.

Holy crap it's busy as heck down there. 30 guys at both I-5 bars this morning.

Bite was slow, but there was a short one from 5-630am before. Left and went to work at 7:30.
