Re: Looking to buy my first boat! Help a newbie out!!
Hey Juniah. Your fishing requirements sound similar to mine maybe 3 years ago. I live in north Kitsap and after fishing from a modified 12' inflatable for years, ended up buying a 12' Hi-Laker with a trailer and older 2 stroke 8 hp Evinrude through Craigslist. I've since upgraded to an older 15 hp J...

Re: Potholes / Moses Lake area hotels
I have used the Shilo many times with fishing buddies and echo Larry's comments about it and Bob's Cafe, which is right there, seems almost always open, has a good variety and decent prices. Shilo does have a free basic continental breakfast starting at 6:00 am. Though air conditioned, on really hot...

Sounds like a good idea, so good luck, but I too just say 'no' to Facebook.

Re: Shore Hotspots Lake Roosevelt
I've only recently gotten to fish Lake Roosevelt in the last 2-3 years and by small boat at that, but something that has jumped out at me in peoples' comments on shore fishing that area: be on the lookout for rattle snakes! I have little idea about their habits, but you should probably know more tha...

Re: Drive-up lake with a view of Mt. Rainier
I too was thinking of American Lake. I don't fish down that way often so there might be better options, but for reference, here's a photo of the mountain from on the lake. It looked bigger than it appears in the photo and I'm not sure if you could see the mountain from the north shore access point. ...

Re: What/where can I fish right now?
You could also go trout fishing in a number of nearby lakes, BUT, a license is required, separate ones are needed for fresh and saltwater, and they expire the end of March. If you don't have one, you might wish to hold off until April 1 or pick fresh or salt to limit your costs.

Re: Sonar interpretation?
So far I am following everything with 2 exceptions: Why won't a tilted transducer inaccurately show the 1. distance to bottom or 2. distance to down rigger ball, for the same reason it inaccurately shows the distance to fish?

I too think it is a great idea, particularly if you are willing to accept constructive criticism. Let's use this as a test of that willingness: To improve on your idea, how about I win 51% of all arguments!!?? Deal!? [thumbsup] [-X [glare] In all seriousness, I look forward to it, especially since I...

Re: Noob seeking Non noob
A few quick tips you might find useful: - the shrimp season is maybe 4 days (4 hr) per year (May?) so try to get yourself on a boat ASAP - summer crab is ~July & Aug, so getting to go out at least once isn't as hard - you can trout fish year round, if the lake is open, and not frozen, but when cold,...

Re: Noob seeking Non noob
Hey Cincy, Welcome. Well I can pretty much guarantee you'll soon be catching all the trout you can handle, and living in that area, you'll have to give Spencer Lake a shot. Trout lakes are all around you. Be aware that some lakes are closed in the winter, but I think they all open up the 4th weekend...

Any thoughts on how these would do for Kokanee, when used with the smallest Deep Six (0)? I don't have a downrigger and would rather pass on getting one.

Re: Winter walleye
Great, Larry. Thanks. I think the reports aren't typically ready until March or April, but I'm sure the data is being analyzed. Given the odd state of affairs with walleye that everyone seems to be aware of, I'm sure Mike would be happy to shed any light if he is able.

Re: Winter walleye
You're not alone. I have been watching 3 main bodies of water since my fall trip there: Potholes, Moses Lake and Banks. My experience and the limited number of reports that have shown up, are very discouraging. I am starting to plan a spring trip but my expectations aren't high.

Re: Fishfinder/Chartplotter Recommendations:
BJ: As mentioned, I just recently got the 53 DV (lakes version) and it does not have Puget Sound (the shoreline is there of course, but there are no depth markings). But realize that with Quickdraw, that is included, you can map out the bottom yourself. So, in my case, I got the lakes version since ...

Re: Fishfinder/Chartplotter Recommendations:
The 12' boat I now have came with a very basic Garmin, and I liked it. But when I came up with a few bucks extra, I decided I'd like to see what I could get in that price range. I quickly narrowed in on the Garmin Echomap series, with CHIRP and ended up buying the Echomap 53DV with CHIRP. I have had...
