Banks Frozen Pic

Post by tcb » Sat May 05, 2007 11:20 am

I'm so glad the weather is warming up, I thought I would share a picture from Banks Lake in January. This is a picture of the Northrup Canyon launch. If you're not familiar with the launch, the posts sticking out of the snow are the end of the 40-50' long docks.

I havent been over there since the photo, but my father in law (who lives in Coulee City) told me last week that it was all melted by Mid-March. My first trip over there is going to be Memorial Day weekend. Camera will be in hand, of course.

Does the ice get thick there? I would have thought that lake was to big to get a good freeze.

I would try ice fishing again, but the last time I went it took us so long to cut a hole big enough for the boat, it got dark before we got a line in the water.

I'm not in the toilet yet, but I'm definitely standing on the rim.

Thick enough to walk on. I wouldnt walk very far, but there were footprints leading out past the end of the docks on the ice.

It doesnt freeze over every year, but this last year with the bad winter it got a pretty good coat of ice. I dont know if the entire lake freezes over, I didnt go as far north as Grand Coulee to see. I'd also imagine the middle of the lake is still open, but couldnt see it.
