I was recently in Northern California for business. It just so happened that there was an Outdoors show going on over the same time period. I stopped by and went through the fishing sections of the show. There tried out (and subsequently bought) a Powell Tiboron XL Fly rod. For those of you that remember Powell from years past the "new Powell" is a very different entity. These days they seem to specialize in Bass rods, but they still make fly rods as well. Darn good ones I might add.....and for a very competitive price.
After casting one for fifteen minutes or so I was so impressed that I bought a 9'-0" 5WT and have used it on my last 4 trips to the lakes. It is now my favorite rod for casting the 24' 300 grain sink tip lines I use. What's impressive to me is that when I switch to a matched floating line the rod still casts perfectly.
For those looking for a very fast action rod with real feel to it take a look at Powell. They can only be purchased direct. The Tiboron XL Flyrod is selling for about $290.00 and it is every bit as good as any of the "signature" rods out there (Sage, Winston etc.)
Tight Lines!
