Selective gear rules- what about a dropper?

I am headed to a fly fishing only, single barbless river this weekend. I have seen people fish here with a dry fly and a dropper scud pattern, which is technically fishing with 2 hooks right? I don’t want to fish illegally but I want to catch some fish and this seems to be the most productive method. I would debarb both hooks obviously if I can fish this method.

Does anyone know for sure what the ruling is on this? or what is the consensus?

I went through the regs at the river and didnt see anything, When I get home i will check that our as well.

It won't be under the 'special regs' for 'a/that' river, it's under 'definitions' for 'fly fishing waters only' as I posted above.. The Mill Creek office told me where to look in the regs, and that it's legal as 2 single point hooks are fine. FLY lures, no hard baits etc. as I asked THAT question. And it covers EVERY lake/river/creek/pond with 'fly fishing' fishery designation.


Special Rules Section for any given lake/river are 'special rules' for that water body only.

By my understanding, Selective Gear Rules allow up to three single point barbless hooks per line. The Anti-snagging rule specifies only one single point hook. I'll check again, but pretty sure that's how it reads.

At Rocky Ford you can use two flies (barbless). Remember that in Fly Fishing only waters split shot is not allowed. Internally weighted flies are.

A dropper behind your 1st fly is standard operating procedure on many waters. In fact it's a Go-2 setup.
A lot of good responses with "Quoted" regs here. I think you are legit. If there is time in the AM, call The Avid Angler.. (Lake Forest Park, fly shop. At least ask them to point U in the direction of the page/reg.

I know it's really what the WDFW tells you... But these people are legit, and respect right and wrong. (Just in case u can't get the officials to respond.
And if u get put behind bars, I'll becyour roomy, as that is my go to set-up.

Yep, not a problem. Every guide on the Yak uses a dropper. Rocky Ford...... Haven't been in a long time to tease the tame trout. Bring every fly you have and get a couple dozen more, they've seen everything are tough to impress. Most of the fish I've seen caught have been on tiny, tiny black dots on a smaller hook, think a tiny black ball made of thread on a size 20 or 22 hook. Good luck and stay out of the water.
