Game Dept. Watching Medical Lake Closely

Post by Marc Martyn » Wed May 16, 2007 3:35 pm

I stopped by Medical Lake for a few minutes today to see how the lake looked. While there, Captain Mike ? from the game department stopped by and we had a very nice visit. He informed me that their office is keeping a close eye on the lake and have cited several people in the last two weeks and a couple of arrests=d> . I also learned that the department plays a very big role in overall law enforcement. They have the same enforcement capability as the WSP, and work very close with them. An area that they get involved in quite a bit is drug enforcement. Mike told me they make a lot of drug busts. This all makes sense, since many lakes and rivers cross over international lines in the N.W.
So, for any of you out there in cyberspace that think that the game wardens are nothing more than a group of "campus cops", think again.:-k

Oh, BTW. When they are talking to a questionable individual, they will often do a NCIC check on them for warrants. That is a nation wide check. That is how they nabbed that guy at Fish Lake last week. Mike told me that there was a felony warrant out on him for burglary. I now feel a whole lot safer when the wardens are around. They are weeding out the creeps!

Marc's words are very true. I see an officer, whether state or local, nearly every times I go there. Just today I stopped by to fish Medical for an hour after a good outing to West Medical. Sure enough, an officer in an unmarked white car stopped by at the launch. I could not tell what department he was from. If/when this lake does become a March 1 opener and fall C&R, enforcement will be paramount. As it is, Medical will have to absorb a lot of pressure without illegal activities compounding that pressure.

Raff-

That was me in the blue truck talking with him at the launch. I saw two guys out on the water and I wondered if you were out there. How did you do? The water sure has cleaned up nicely at the launch.o:)

Marc,

Ha! If I'd known that was you I'd sauntered over to say hello! I was in the green/black pontoon, the closest to the launch. I didn't do well at all. I did good earlier in the day at W. Medical but by the time I arrived at Medical the bite was over. I did get a few short strikes on a leech, that was it. I got a couple browns yesterday while sinklining and a friend of mine did well with chironomids under a strike indicator...7 rainbows to net and a few others hung/lost. As of late the fish seem to be most active on Medical between 11:00 and 1:30 or so. After that you pretty much have to wait til the evening feed, and even then cross your fingers and hope that it happens. Am going back tomorrow A.M. if you can make it, the south (launch) end again.

Raff

P.S. What department was that officer from? Just curious......

Don't give up on the lake. It has been an off and on year so far. Last year the lake didn't really start producing, at least for me until the end of the month.
I would love to go out thursday, but I am getting ready for the weekend float down the Yakima. It is suppose to be windy, so I am going to have to hone in on my casting skills. It should be fun anyway, the river is running at about 4500cfs and the caddis are in full hatch. Red's say that it is one of the heaviest hatches they have seen.
We'll meet up on the lake in the not too distant future.
The officer that I was talking to was Mike from the Game Dept.
When the city pulled up with that pontoon boat, I said to him " hey, you know that no motors are allowed, don't you?" He said, "that's o.k., we have oars":-"
