Post by donater » Thu Aug 30, 2012 4:42 pm

any stores around everett/seattle/burlington that sell good eggs?

so far every brand of egg ive bought sucks (rays, morgans). the only luck i had was with the ones from teds that came in a jar, but those are gone now.

Cabela's has jars of roe, haven't tried them myself. I've had good luck with the big jars from the barrier dam store. Just need some to keep you in business until the coho start getting marked!

if you cure your own let me know in a couple weeks. vacation from 10th to 15th and if that time with a secret spot with coho is like last year, about 15-20lbs will go to the seagulls. don't use them enough anymore to bother with them and nobody who wanted them didn't want to come and get them.

The alaskan eggs from freddy's in the vac pacs, are good handling, can't say about the catching. They're very durable, must have a lot sugar. They'd be great for plunking.

I'll never use those things again. I had one experience with them when I was a kid and they aren't worth the bother. The eggs are usually all squished and all you're left with is smelly snot. Never caught a thing on 'em.

The best store bought eggs in my opinion is Sunrise Bait. They use to sell them at Barrier Campground Store, but I'm not sure if they still do. Best bet is to order online. Tried Amermans as well, but never caught anything off of them.

Never tried them myself, but I heard the pautzke's eggs that come in a vaccuum sealed pack are decent. Also, at least for drift fishing for steel, I wouldn't shy away from ez-eggs. I've had days where I've killed 'em on ez-eggs when nothing else was working. Just make sure to add a little yarn and scent (I like procure shrimp), and get rid of your corky. If you have the corky and ez eggs on there your offering will float too high.

I can see how that would turn a guy off. The ones I tried were still eggs and well held together maybe a little too much for drifting, hense the plunking.....

Saw on another forum where someone took the store bought eggs and ran em through the curing process with fire cure, said it worked really well to spruce up the eggs (and claims they actually cured up). Not sure if I believe it or not and haven't had a need to try it. But might put a little extra scent on em at least.
