I see some people say one and mean the other. If you toss a Vibrex / Blue Fox even with a single hook you'll catch. I swear by those. Lil Cleos or Lil Jewels are both great river spoons. The Crocodile or the Castmaster are a cast and retrieve spoon.

Go with a guide before you try to float it yourself, you may come across water that'll make you think twice about trying it in a small inflatable. I dont really know how difficult the water is on the sky, only bank fished the sky once but I'm a safety first kind of guy. I don't know enough about river fishing to offer any advice, sorry, the mention of the small inflatable made me want to chime in though. Good luck out there!

What Jd39 said, i'd go with a guide first.
There are some achievements which are never done in the presence of those who hear of them. Catching salmon is one, and working all night is another.

Do not float the Skykomish in an inflatable, unless it is made for white water. It is not safe. Every year we read the news stories and people think that it's okay to tube these rivers and they get injured, or worse. The river around reiter is even more dangerous than lower, and without white water gear, you're going to be swimming.

Sorry it took me so long to respond!
I didn't wind up fishing for steelhead yet... was pretty busy on local lakes. I hear the humpies will be running good this year. I have yet to go salmon fishing. *pout*

maybe it'll work out this year.

also.. thank you all for the great advice. I think I'll be doing a bit of studying before I get out and try for salmon. I guess I'm a slow starter. Looks like a ton of fun though! :)

Humpies are a blast and there are several methods to catch them that you really don't have to have any advanced expertise.

That sounds like fun! After reading all the advice above about safety & not using my inflatable raft on the river... i'm looking for a good spot to shore fish and try to avoid the shoulder-to-shoulder thing. I understand that when the humpies come in this year... it'll be for about a month so I don't want to miss it!!!! I'm wondering when I should schedule my vacation.

Mid September the rivers will be full of Humpies and maybe even before then.

use the historical data from 2013 and prior.

Go to the River Index (black menu bar)

Click on Snohomish River Reports

Above the reports, use the "Species Select" and pick Pink Salmon. The report page will reset to show only pink salmon fishing reports.

Now you can start doing some heavy duty research on dates fished, what anglers used, and some of the reports will have hotspots for you to look at.

That should keep you busy reading!

Heres a trick. During Pink season it will get pretty crowded. Yell "Here comes the warden" and like magic spots open to fishing.

depends on species and river flow/water clarity

It's been a couple years but i'm still fishing. I'ce tried the snohomish & skykomish shore fishing a few times but only caught one humpy a year ago and it was on it's last legs. I haven't figured it out yet so a guide would be great! If anyone still wants to go... Best time for me is Sunday evening. weather is good! :sunny:
