I went today to check it out but no one catching anything. Where on the river is the good spots for salmon I know pinks are running any help on where and what they are bitting on would help.

They bite in the mouth. usually....

Its a bit early to target pinks in the Nasty. I would wait a few more weeks. Go to any good outdoors store such as Outdoor Emporium, Sportco, Auburn Sports and Marine and ect. They should have displays up soon with all the pink gear you will need. I know Auburn Sports and Marine has a display up now. Since you plan on fishing the river, get pink corkies and yarn for drift fishing. If drift fishing aint your thing, then you can toss pink jigs at them. If all else fails, cast out a pair of pink panties on a sickle hook and see if one bites. Good Luck bud

kings normally like eggs either drifted or bobber and pinks will hit just about anything pink but I have never fished the squally before so can't really help there

More than six-million pinks are expected to migrate into the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Puget Sound this summer, and the Cabela’s Tulalip Store at 9810 Quil Ceda Blvd. in Tulalip is hosting a pink salmon fishing seminar July 13-14.

Seminar schedule each day is: 11 a.m., Fly Fishing for Pinks by Mike Benbow; 12:15 p.m., Successful River Techniques for Pinks by Jennifer Stahl; 1:30 p.m., Catching Pinks with Dick Nite Spoons by Jon Blank; 2:45 p.m., Puget Sound Pink Fishing by Nick Kester and Ryan Bigley; 4 p.m., Tying Your Own Pink Salmon Jigs; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Smokin’ Pinks and Kids Casting.

While the nisqually opens up July 1st, i've never had much success out there til the end of july or early august depending on when the kings start showing. As for the pinks keep track of the creel reports to see where there biting in the salt and you can make in educated guess what river they're about to start running up. You can use a 8'6" medium action rod rated 8-12 pound line for those pinks. If you planon going for kings in the same river then a medium heavy rod rated up to 17 pound line should be ok. Theres a few brands you can pick up new for under 100 bucks like a Lamiglas X-11, Okuma SST, Okuma Celilo. or even an Ugly Stick.

i have a 7foot pole would that be fine ?

dont forget to check out the Shimano Clarus line. Under 100 and lifetime warranty. 7 foot will work, depending on action and or line weight. Just take your time and play it out. Shoot, you can toss a snoopy pole at pinks and do alright.

could i do alright with the 7 footer i know im getting a longer pole but im buying a house and im trying to cut back on the spending 100$ wont break the bank but i always complain about the wife buying stuff lol.

what is your 7 footer? For pinks I have seen guys using 6 foot trout rods. They play hell to land a fish but it can be done. String it up with 15 or 17 lb pline line and have some fun.

You'll probably be fine. I just use the cheapest rods that I have which are just regular trout rods.
