Amber Eye Opener
A good friend of mine who fishes Amber every chance he gets and has for many years, called me and told me a story that will send chills down your back.
Last sunday, he was out there in his pontoon boat for most of the day. When he came into the launch, he got out of the seat, took off his fins and turned around to disconnect his electric trolling motor. He noticed something down on the side of the battery and a closer look made him jump back.:pale: A bull snake was wrapped around his battery! Apparently, while crossing the lake, he decided to hitch a ride on the cargo rack.
So guys, keep a sharp :cyclopsan out when you are cruising along, you may not be alone8-[

Yikes! I'd have had a heart attack right there! The two things that still freak me out are snakes and spiders. It could have been worse, though. I've heard that there are rattlers at Amber. Is this true?

RE:Amber Eye Opener
Yes, that is true. They aren't as prevalent as out at Coffe Pot or the Potholes, but they are around. Last summer I was on the lake and saw one cross the lake. When they swim, they hold their heads up high like a cobra, unlike water snakes that are down on the waterline.
When Dennis saw it, he checked to see if it was a rattler. When he identified it as a bull, he just reach down, grabbed it by the tail and pulled it off. He grew up south of Cheney on a farm and in his years of hunting experience he has crossed paths with a lot of snakes so they don't really bother him. But seeing one that is in a spot that you wouldn't expect one will make anyone jump.
Wow! After posting this, Dennis and I may be the only ones on Amber for a while!
Just a note: What happened to Dennis is a very rare occurrence. It only proves that anything can happen. Doesn't mean that it will happen to you.o:)

RE:Amber Eye Opener
Once you get on the east side of the Mtns there are rattle snakes, period. Bull snake around the battery...... Just a couple days ago a fellow on another forum a fellow posted a picture of a bull snake hitching a ride on his Jet boat on the Snake. How's that for freaky? Rattle snakes are very timid creatures, I'm sure they'd be heading the other way if they were out for a swim. Bull snakes are noted good swimmers but,............... sure he wasn't there all along?

i have had so many snakes hop into the boat, whats really scary is grabbing a lure out of the tree and having a snake fall on you or having a bee nest in the branch. get a swarm of bees on you and you wont even think about it, you will just hop into the water.

RE:Amber Eye Opener
Western Washington has no native venomus snakes. One could ride over on a hay truck but wouldn't last long. Much too moist for them.
