Does anyone know why the tiger trout was introduced? The tiger muskie was originally introduced to put squawfish in check. Just wondering if the tiger trout was the same concept or another reason.

You are not wrong at all gpc, I am. I did mix the two up. Thanks.

The official state record is 6.26lbs. caught at Lenice Lake by Dennis Werlau in 2006.

There is a great article on Tiger Trout in this months issue of Washington-Oregon Game&Fish.
They talk about the lakes that have and are going to be stocked with the Tiger Trout and which lakes were first stocked. This will answer your question eustace.
kevinb - they say that they introduced the Tiger Trout just for the angler. Just like the Triploid. With the hopes of bringing back the interest in trout fishing in Washington to what it once was. The article also talks about how these aggressive fish may effect fisheries in the near future. They could quit possibly take over lakes since they are a top predator. They're still testing the waters that they first introduced them into. But they can be easily controlled and shouldn't get to out of hand if they keep up with the proper stocking of these lakes. Also, they won't introduce them into Region 3 because most fisheries are Columbia River tributaries and they don't want the Tiger Trout to have a "negative impact on native trout, char, steelhead and salmon".
They began stocking Tiger Trout in Grant County Lakes in 2001. These lakes would be your best bet at a trophy.
The article also points out that it's not when the new state record will be broken this fishing season, but how many times!
Get out there and go for them. If I lived on the Eastside I would be hunting for these awesome fish daily.

There are a few lakes stocked with tiger trout around Colville as well. I have fished them in Black lake on HWY 20 last year. Nothing huge,,,,,,,,,,, mostly in the 10-14" range. I have heard theres a couple more in the area, but I havent "tested those waters". TTFN

fishnislife wrote:Being sterile the fish would be able to grow to great sizes, trophies should reach 25" in a couple years. The State record is only 1.89 and I can bet that this is a wild (natually occuring) Tiger Trout. Now that they are being stocked, this record should go down fairly quickly.

Most hybrid fish of any species tends to more aggressive than either of the two being mixed.

Another cool shot I found searching about info on Tiger Trout. Amazing colors.

What are the best lakes in the Eastern part of the state to catch these Tiger Trout? I tried Dry Lake and we didn't catch anything, I think it was a little too early in the year though? Do you fish for them just like Rainbow, Brown, or Brook Trout?
