WashingtonLakes Wire Bender twist off time?

Post by fishcreekspinners » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:04 am

Time for a hand-made Spinner Swap? Guarantee - Cabin fever buster. Stay Frosty!

We did one of these a year ago and it was fun. Got to share our creations and get some new spinners to try out. A second round was planned, but fishing season got started, and it fizzled.

Think the timings right again?

Any one interested in being part of the crew, please post a response or any questions.

You can change your mind and opt out, up until we start the clock and start building.

Participation signup is capped either in 10 days (March 1) or if we get 10 signups. We can still do one if we get as few as 5.

For example if four more signup (I'm already signed up), then each person designs and builds 5 identical spinners of their creation and mails the set, to a hub (me) for collection and distribution back the the participants.

Each participant should post a picture of their set once created and prior to mailing.

I'll post a picture of a combined assortment after I get them all assembled and prior to mailing them back.

You'll need to consider component counts, etc. before deciding if you have enough stuff and figure out the packaging for the hooks, to mail them.

Here's a slideshow of last years handiwork, everyone's a winner!

Let the second annual WashingtonLakes Wire Bender twist off begin.

Great idea. I'd be in for that. I know there is a number of lure makers out there, jump on and tell us what you think.

I will do it again.

I'd need to procure enough supplies to make a set...how much time before you'd want the completed sets?

Do they need to be proven? I've just recently begun making my own and have yet to test them...

Maybe a couple weeks after cutoff on signup, say March 15th or so? I seem to remember it took longer then expected and a delay was not a problem.

Its not urgent and we can figure it out after signup ends on March 1st.

Cool, then I'm in.
...as long as they don't need to be proven yet. I do my homework though, so I'm guessing they'll be fishy.

Four and a wakeup left on signup.

Looks like 4 participants, at this point. Anybody else interested?

I'm in. [thumbup]

I have some down time coming in March, my spinners may not be done until say the 20th if that isn't too late? But I'll work on getting them done sooner if I can.

I got a big plastic box of beads a couple years ago at a Goodwill and I think I can make something fun with them.

Great Mike, looks like we've got 5 with a few days left to signup.

So far - You, Sparky1Doug, Toni, Corey and me.

I don't see any problem if you cant get done til the 20th.

Hey, only a wakeup left. We have 5 participants. What do you think of this idea of adding some fishing giveback?

We each go find a kid/sidekick/protege - neighborhood, friend or relatives kid to show how to do it, or if not everybody, whoever can or wants to. So we end up with a WALakes member set of participants and a sidekick set of participants. They participate and also make spinners for the participants in their group. Theirs can be any they make vs identical. Post the pictures and send them in. I send each of you back 2 assortments, ours and the kids. You and your protege can divide them up as you choose.

Puts a little burden on us for more components, but not that much. They'll get some fishing tackle and you'll get a friend for life and maybe even an extra fishing trip with an new fishing buddy.

At first glance, sounds good to me, but it might be harder then I'm imagining. Maybe everyone cant do it that way, if you cant, you get the original 5 assortment. If three find sidekicks, they get back the 5 WaLakes assortment and the sidekick assortment of 3.

Sound feasible?

Wish I had time to jump into it this time around - had fun twisting the last bunch.

Can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Ok, looks like 5 participants. Signups are over and we will go without sidekicks. Fishing seasons here for me.

Please post a picture your spinners when you have them made.

More the merrier from my viewpoint. Can any body else thats involved weigh in?

Here's my batch, I can make another one, no problem.

Image

The #5 Indiana daredevil pattern blades have a bright nickel undersides. Looking at the picture, I guess I better wipe the those backsides off a little!

The spinners weigh 1/5oz and are 3inches in length. I put a positioned a couple friction discs to make blade contact and they should make noise and vibration. Dressed up the trebles with red bucktais.

I haven't put them in the water, but I'm certain they'll catch trout, bass, and pike (I know a Northern waiting for mine). Wondering about the trout a little.

Can't wait to see the other entries.

Sparky, it's a swap, not a competition, LOL. That said, last year my spinner entry looked like dog meat, next to the others, you be the judge. Had to dress something up better this year!

Practice and sharing idea's and techniques, we all win.

Maybe I'll re-make one of my first spinner designs and post it for your enjoyment. It caught a big fish though. Think I still have the parts to do one.
