I was going to go fishing for on of the 100 6lb fish they plat every spring in my favorite lake. I was wondering, what meathods would you sugest? Buzz bombs, or just a chuk of worm. Fly fishing? I will be fishing out of a boat, the water is something like up to 150ft deep and 20ft visibility, so they are extreamly spooky.

Bow's, the lake has a nice native cutthroat population as well, some large dolly varden still roam this reservoir to.

Well, not knowing the lake or the bottom structure, as far as fly fishing I would try this-
Bows are likely to hit on leech patterns, damsel fly nymphs and wooly buggers. I have found black, olive green and wine to be the most productive colors. This time of the year as the water tempertures start dropping, trout will move into the shallower water and hunt for food in the edge of weed lines. If the water temperature in 68 degrees and below, you may find them in the shallows. Keep in mind that in the fall, trout will start "fattening up". In Sept/Oct on Clear Lake near Spokane, I have caught 20" browns in very shallow water (2' or less). They will actually cruise the shoreline at dusk.
Rainbows have a tendency to have an attraction to red. Cutthroats seem to like orange. If using a flash bait, you might try a red/white daredevil. It has been many years since I bait casted for trout, but if I remember that was a pretty productive spoon.
I would guess for depth, you would most likely find the bows in 50' or less water.

I don't think he'll reveal that. I'd go with larger lures. Flatfish, Hotshots, Rapalas, something big. Tip them with a worm, and make sure the lures are too big for normal sized planter trout to hit. And go deeper...Troll structure if possible.

Do exactly what Sam said. Also try busting out a walleye sized double whammy and a full crawler. I think I might try 1 last camping trip this fall to mineral before it closes. I was going to try a salmon set up for half a day or so. You know, a small cut plug herring and a salmon dodger on my salmon pole. But this lake is proven to have HUGE trout, so I know there is something down there worth the time.

the lake has alot of structure in it submerged stumps, Thank's for the tip's I tried a full crawler from shore with 1 split shot casted in the middle of a bunch of stumps and hooked the bigest trout iv ever encountered, steelhead excluded, at least a couple pounds probably one of the 6lbers. Of course it tore line from the reel and eventualy snaged me up. That's what I get for useing 2lb test maby 4 or 6 next time.

Here is a hint as to the location, Mason Grays harbor, or Jeferson county. It is not listed in the regs, and receives 100 6lb trout every year. It is an extreamly clear lake and has another reservoir above it.

If your going for trout that big and have the snag risks like that, don't be afraid to bump up to 8 or 10 lbs. Like gpc said, something like a worm troll is giong to produce some big fish.

Big ones seem to hit a lot on trolled large silver Kastmasters. We caught an 18 incher the other day on Sammamish. We were using 20 pound test(!) because we switched from salmon fishing..

The ne problem is that the lake is so clear that they get line shy it seems to me, I've had double the strikes on 2lb as I have had on 4lb. Besides if you didn't think it could come off at any minute then it wouldn't be nearly as rewarding when you caught it.

Nice fish! Thats a Slab. I like the $20 bill next to it instead of a $1 bill lol.

I have had better luck with green flatfish, but I guesse they can see the red better.

I had to put the $20 next to it since it was a twenty inch fish...

I've always kept an eye out at EVERY tackleshop for a green flatfish, but can't find many. Closest I can find is firetiger, but I wanna throw out a green one cause I did just as good if not better when using a green wedding ring over a red one...

I can always get a green flatfish at joes. Me and my father havn't realy ever trusted anything besides a green flatfish. We have caught rainbows cutthroat mackiinaw and bass with them.

I'll have to look a little closer next time i'm there....

I love flatfish and prefer to fish those ahead of any other spinner/spoon for trout...
