I will be visiting with family in Anacortes in July and want to take my 5 year old granddaughter fishing. I thought we would probably only last for about an hour or maybe less. Just want her to catch a few fish, perch, bluegill, etc. Will be fishing from the shoreline only. Plan on fishing with a bobber and bait. Any suggestions as to which lakes, rivers, or shoreline close to Anacortes would be greatly appreciated. I know I will need a license, but will she?
Thanks,
East Coast Visitor

Cranberry Lake right at Deception State Park. As you enter the area you pass a lake. The other is Campbell Lake. This lake has panfish ,trout, and bass .In the Anacortes area those are my pics.Dont forget to pick up some fresh tiger or coon shrimp from the locals.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

If fishing for trout, bluegill, perch, etc. you will need a temporary license, but she will not. In WA youth up to 14 years of age can fish without a license, but if they are targeting fish such as salmon, steelhead, dungeness crab, halibut, etc. then they still need a WDFW catch record card to record the catches and send in to the WDFW.

racfish and BentRod,
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with an out of state visitor. I'll pick a warm day and we will pack our lunch, a few children's books, and hope for some action while the lines are wet.

East Coast,
Also something to be aware of: Not sure if they give you one with the temporary license or if you have to buy it separate, but to park in some WDFW recreation areas a WDFW parking sticker needs to be displayed in your front window. State Parks, county parks, not needed, but anyplace that has a WDFW sign (i.e. boat launches, WDFW recreation areas, trail heads)or if you're unsure it'd be better to prevent a ticket. FYI

Good luck :]
