Northwest Fishing Reports

I have been having a hard time fishing this past weekend. I mainly fish from the banks of lakes in King county with my son and have not been able to lake even a small trout. I have tried worms, power bait (all different colors), flies, and even mister twisters. I would welcome any advice anyone would have to help me catch some fish. I am from Georgia so my knowledge of fishing in this state is very limited.

Dont feel bad, I havnt landed anything yet this year either. And Ive lived here all my life.

Things are warming up and the fish will start becoming more active.

What lakes are you hitting the most?
We have a Bass/Trout derby comming up soon, Im sure you could get alot of good tips from the members attending.

Mainly I have tried Lk Washington, Fenwich Lake, and Lake Meridian.

I am not sure where the fishing has been hot but I will give you some advise on what to use. The way I found MOST productive fishing for stocked rainbows from shore is: First put on a 1/4 oz sliding weight on your main line then tie on your swivel. Next I would start with a 18-32" leader attached to your barrel swivel then I use a size 6 bait holder. Then you take a half of a good sized night crawler (and this is important) run the hook through the cut off end of the night crawler threading it on and coming out so the top of the night crawler comes to the top of the hook shank. Then u take a syringe or worm inflating tool like here u tube inflating night crawler and add air coming in through the hole the hook point came out of. I then use a power egg to hold the night crawler in position and add color/smell. This is a very simple rig but it is also very productive. The main thing is keeping that night crawler straight and not balled up.

i usually do the same thing taz just mentioned except i dont use the worm. lake boron was recently stocked can easily catch a fish or two there...

dont go to finwick that lake has a curse on it lol. seriously though i hate that lake for trout. do ok for bass there at times but not trout. meridian is kind of hit or miss i have had dayds there were we just slaughtered them there.

i would go to lake boron and fish off the dock. the smaller dock across the lake is a little better for kids since there isnt a railing, makes it alot easier for them to fish.

Sounds like most everything mentioned is right except the leader length. During this early season and chasing recently planted fish use at least a 6 ft leader. The fish are cruising higher and will take a month or so before they find the bottom.

The hold overs love those night crawlers off the bottom it is a little extra work and $ but the chance for more fish like this one are worth it:-$

Lake Washington can be a bit_h to fish, stick with the smaller lakes. I prefer to use the set up mentioned as well, with the weight, a leader and some sort of floating bait. I don't use a bobber anymore. You can also just pinch on a split shot or two and skip the swivel and leader if you are feeling lazy. I sometimes pair a worm and some floating bait.

The blue writing is a link to u tube where there is a video showing u how to inflate a worm the only video I could find but note that the way he is fishing is different then what I was saying but he uses a night crawler filled with air.

Go to Pine Lake in a few days when it opens. Replicate what everyone else is doing, becuase you will see trout being pulled out left and right. Worms under a bobber, lures, or powerbait will work great off the pier. Not exactly the most peaceful place to wet a line however, expect a decent crowd. But with 20,000 fish to catch, you'll be in a great place to get you and your son into some fish.

Like you and RaMcVey, I've been fishing three times this year and haven't gotten more than one nibble. I tend not to use bait, but I usually have better luck than this . The warming water temps will make a big difference and definitely take the advice of Pine lake this coming weekend (get opening date from regs). It'll be very crowded, so get there early and they'll probably hit anything. I fished it the weekend after opener last year and had luck on most anything I threw and didn't use bait then either. Things will get better . Tight lines.

i agree pine is a great lake to fish. actually my favorite lake to get out on the float tube and knock trout dead. you can easily catch 50 to 100 fish a day there.
