Boat license requirements

Post by Bisk1tSnGraV » Tue Apr 20, 2010 6:30 am

I have been trying to find the actual requirements for the size of boat that you must have licensing for. My small boat that I bought November of last year has it but am not sure it is actually needed. It is an 11.3 Basstender with a 3hp outboard. Thanks!
'course they don't have biscuits and gravy ... but if they did, I bet everyone would eat there.

My understanding is: nope. Has to be OVER 10 hp and either 14 or I think 16 foot boat.

I looked yesterday on line for my boat also. I googled it on washington state boat liscensing. I think it was the dmv. If I remember right it was 16 ft and nothing more than 9 or 10 horse power. Hope that helps.

Any boat or other water vessel that is 16 feet or longer, has a motor larger than 10 horsepower, or is used on federal waters.

What Not to Register

That "federal waters" thing is the part that gets looked over. Of course most of the lakes around the state are not federal waters and most of the small rivers, but the Sound, larger lakes (ie Sammamish, Washington, Union) are listed as federal waters. As are the rivers that are controlled by dams/locks (ie Columbia) and, from what I understand, the tributaries of those rivers. On federal waters, any boat powered by a motor, regardless of hp, electric or combustion, is required to be registered/licensed.
