Connecting Lowrance HDS-5 to Yamaha Command Link

Post by rephresh » Tue Mar 15, 2011 5:33 pm

I was wondering if anyone has connected their Lowrance HDS unit to their motor. Just picked up a new Lowrance HDS-5 and want to take advantage of the RPM, SPEED, ETC...engine interface screen. I have a new Yamaha F90 TXR 4-stroke outboard. I understand a connection can be made from the Yamaha's command link to the Lowrance via a NMEA 2000 network cable. I've found and read a lot of forums about this, but I'd like to talk to someone's who's actually done it.

Yamaha dealer suggests buying a Yamaha Gateway Module for $214.00.

But I've also read you just need a NMEA 2000 cable that has one end with a command link connector.

Also, can anyone tell me where the command link is on the motor itself.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
